I will never understand how it made sense to give a bunch of teams a chance to win the lottery or the cup. It really should have been one or the other.

I'm gonna be all kinds of salty if the Rags get that pick.

You mean “when”.

While im still annoy at the 2 part lottery that was completely unnecessary and the whole play-in thing. I'm not sure i can fully get behind the statement "they have a chance at the cup AND the lottery"... that's kind of a stretch to take it this literally. I mean... during the season every team has the chance at the cup and the lottery up to a certain point.

Cause in reality... they are never really given a shot at the cup and lottery at the same time. They have a shot at the "playoffs", the cup is a whole other level. So if they lose the play-in, they have a shot at the lottery but not at the cup anymore. So it's really just like any team in a playoffs race in a normal season.

Then i guess another angle i never thought of until now... for teams that WERE in the playoffs... to be told... "yeah you were in... but we'll do this thing and if you lose then you won't be in the playoffs anymore".... but at least if you lose you'll have the insentive of maybe winning the lottery i guess?

I think this is right on the money. They should have done the lottery later. But the play-in losers didn’t have a “shot at the cup” any more so than any other team that was in the lottery.

The true bullsh!t was the play-in round. And the whole notion that... the play-in teams ARE considered playoffs teams... but once they lose.. they aren't ?

They should’ve just said from the start that they aren’t. This is just finishing the regular season without the sh!tty teams. They should’ve just labeled it as such.

And they should’ve just done the lottery AFTER the play-in.

It should have just been the draft lotto for picks 1-7 for the 7 teams that were eliminated completely. Then do another lotto draft for picks 8-15 for the teams that lose the play in round series. Problem solved. It's certainly more fair than what they decided to do.

It's awful convenient that the lottery ended on a "to be continued"

So can someone brush me up on what benefits our picks? Who are we rooting for? Carolina? Do we want the rangers to win the play-in and then get crushed in the playoffs so they avoid 1OA? This fvcking sucks. I feel dirty.

Edit: I'm a dumbass I forgot there's literally an entire thread donated to this very subject

Personally I'd rather see the Rangers beat Carolina in 5 games with lots of overtime involved and then get swept in the first round. I'd rather see Carolina win the first overall pick than the Rangers. I want the same result with the Islanders, beat Florida and then get swept in the first round.

A meaningless play in win series by both the Rangers and Islanders that everyone will forget and then getting knocked out in the first round is much easier to deal with than either of them winning the #1 pick.

not covid related, but I would still be surprised if the NHL pulled this off.  MLB on the verge of imploding and having to cancel their already aborted season.

NHL players have seemed to buy in for the cause and the game. Following protocols, social distancing, et al.

MLB players have proven they’re some of the most selfish arrogant fvcks in existence with players/teams literally going to bars while on road trips, then lying about it.

I talked about It in a different thread, but it’s clear which leagues cared about the sport and others only cared about their own wallets.

EDIT: this post seemed a little overly idealistic after re-reading it, so for clarification: was I shocked they got to the bubble to begin with? Absolutely. But two straight weeks of zero positives and so far, zero breaches of policy make me very optimistic we see the cup won.

Bubbles work, the MLS, NWSL and NBA have proven that. The MLB isn't in a bubble and guys are going out to clubs(Miami) and casinos(Cardinals). Guys not having any personal responsibility or self control is the problem with the MLB.
