should be an interesting season.

I have no hope or expectations for playoffs or wtv. But i have a little wish list for the season

- Jack taking the next step and showing he could be a difference maker

- Nico to keep progressing

- Smith making the team and showing potential

- Us doing good enough so that we can re-sign Murray and Goose. Probably Palms too.

- I wish or a solid goaltending tandem

- Subban to play like he's worth at least half his salary. HALF. I'm not asking too much i feel.

These are not unreasonable requests.

All reasonable hopes.  Not so sure about Subban (even at the deservedly low bar you've set)...I have him on the "Only two more seasons and we can forget about him" countdown.  Nothing I saw from him last year has me hopeful.

Also looking forward to seeing what Ruff brings.  I know many weren't thrilled with his hiring, but at least he's a vet with experience who's had some degree of success.  Still not remotely thrilled about Nas still being here, but oh well.

Setting low expectations for the team over the last 5 years has been the best decision i could have made as a fan when it comes to my "fan mental state" haha

and it's easy to see a direct correlation between some people who had high expectations and how they wanted to punch walls and jump off bridges haha

Besting 21 points is a pretty low bar fwiw.

Two things that have me hopeful for this season, right off the bat (as far as the team being more competitive on a nightly basis goes):

More competent coaching

Goaltending that should be solid throughout the entire season.  I feel for Schneider and he sure seems like a good guy, but I couldn't be on board with him getting yet ANOTHER chance to bounce back.

Devils were below league avg in save% three out of the last four seasons (in the other, they were right at league average).  I think they'll be above this year.

Yeah i always said that goaltending early last season was THE big problem. Sure the guys were not playing like the late 80s islanders but every game you JUST knew our goalies were going to be giving either... a bad goal on the first shot of the game... a bad goal in the dying seconds of a period... a bad goal seconds after we scored a goal... It was truly like clockwork. Nothing a coach or players can do there.

I have to imagine copious amounts of alcohol were involved. I can't imagine being in the front seat of a car with my wife in the back getting sexually assaulted and having no idea that it was happening. I mean, who pays that little attention?

Drunk people.

Agreed, would also makes sense as to why he didn't think it would be a giant red flag that this scum bag was so insistent about sitting next to his wife.

I had high expectations off the playoff season, but I was quickly reminded how long a true rebuild takes if you wanna do it right.

Well the problem is you honestly can't "control" it as much as people think. All you can do is make the best possible decisions you can with what you have in order to land with the "right" pieces hopefully. There's a lot of luck involved too.

The draft is the biggest part of it and there's really no guarantee. Give us McDavid and Matthews instead of Hischier and Hughes and we're having a different conversation right now.

Or have chicago pick Backstrom or Staal instead of Toews. Then JVR instead of Kane... no matter what "good moves" they would have made on paper... they were not getting the success they've had.

Good list. I also hope to see Bratt carry over his good play from the end of last season. Other than Gusev he looked like our best player for a stretch there (low bar I know).

Yeah Bratt to me is really just... amazing gravy. he really wasn't supposed to have any impact that early so i really dont want to put too much expectations on him but i sure hope he continue to evolve, i really like him

Yeah its been talked about for awhile now but it's really just a forced temporary alignment because Canada is not letting any sports teams go back and forth across the border to play games. It's why Toronto in the NBA is playing in Tampa Bay this upcoming season, the Blue Jays played somewhere in upstate NY and in the MLS the 3 teams, Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal played in Canada amongst themselves for a bit before having to play "home" games in the US with Vancouver in Portland, Montreal at Red Bull Arena and Toronto in Harford.

Gonna be interesting cause there can be some playoff matches we normally would never see now in all of the rounds.

I’d 1000% rather it be on the helmets than on the jerseys.

Sure, but the helmets will just be the start. Those European jerseys with ads all over them are truly awful. I would never buy one if they go that route in the NHL.

Right, but wasn’t it already being discussed that they might put ads on jerseys a year or two ago? If this is an alternative to that, rather than a gateway to completely covering the jerseys in ads, then I would be happy about that.

If I was an owner, I’d protest jersey ads by selling the space to Pornhub, Trojans, etc.

Yeah, if it stops at helmets no big deal.
