Holtz scored the game winner as Djurgarden came from 3-2 down in the third to win 4-3.

Glad I could break his curse by pointing out he hadn't scored.

When he has a good center he is on. He hasn’t when he played on wjc. He is on the bright side of his game in the moment of time and place.

How can you make that argument though when he literally lead the tournament in shots? He certainly got his chances. He just couldn't finish. Especially as a "sniper" there's truly no excuses that he didn't produce because he didn't have a good center. He got his shots and mostly from prime locations too

How? Easy. Shots to shots are different. If the center can't pull the opponent back, can't create space, can't adjust during the breakaway - Holtz  shots from under the player. But Niederbach could not close the goalkeeper's view either. Couldn't make a redirect, couldn't play on the rebound. Holtz wasn't shot in the guts
At the same time, it cannot be said that the wjc was successful for him. But as an 18-year-old hockey player, he definitely proved himself.. And your words about the shots are proof of that.

I read elsewhere, but do not have a source, that Mukhamadullin is out for the season with an injury.

Yeah, I saw that, but their season is almost over anyway, so i don’t think it’s anything too serious.

@Guadana

do you know what happened?

Mercer scored a hat trick tnight

that is all

I know this is an old post, and don't want to take anything away from Mercer, but as a 4th year player in the Q who's now 19, I'm assuming he's approaching overage territory?  How old is the average Q player?

Just looked it up...looks like he's about right in the middle, as far as his team's birthdays go.

Not sure this is the thread for this, but here goes.  I was reading on some of the 2021 prospects (though I know we might not draft these guys until 2022) and in the list I found Owen Power was first.  He is a 6’6” defenseman!  I started to wonder what people who follow prospects think of this kid.  With the Devils season slowly drifting away it would be amazing to get a d-man nearly the size of Chara with a skill set of a high caliber.  But I don’t really know much more about this kid or the competing draft prospects, so I figured I would ask here and get some feedback.

Holtz so far this season: 17 points in 35 games.

Holtz last season: 16 points in 35 games.

After a strong start to the season where he looked like a top player on his team, he has scored something like 4 points since coming back from the WJC. I try not to look too much into point production during a weird season like this, but the lack of progress really makes you wonder what's going on with him. Is it an injury, a bad team, low confidence, or some combination?

For the record, I still really like this kid's skillset and I still believe he is the Devils' top prospect. I've seen enough footage on him to know that he's a highly talented player, and more well rounded than he gets credit for. It's just really not what you like to see, when the hopes were so high that he would take some serious strides this season.

From what I've heard, he's very good at a lot of things, but not really elite at anything. A big defenseman with some offensive tools and smooth skating draws some comparisons to Hedman, but I don't think he projects to be close to Hedman just yet. I admittedly have not seen much video on him, so I can't comment from my own opinions, but I will say that he's had a pretty impressive season from a points production perspective. Similar to Cam York, who is on his team, and was one of the top defensemen taken in 2019. If the Devils keep losing, Power may actually be available when they pick, because it looks like there are a bunch guys who could challenge for those top few draft spots in this class.

What’s going on with him is he was drafted by the Devils, and his offensive game has staggered accordingly. I look forward to watching him have a career as a bottom six penalty killing specialist who excels at blocking shots and hitting posts.

Thanks Nessus.  This is the sort of feedback I was looking for.  He sounds like a legit prospect, though I’d prefer someone more “elite” if we end up drafting in the first couple slots.  Then again, how many elite defensemen are there?  I feel like the Stevens and Nieds of the NHL are rarer than ever (though it does tell you how lucky we were for all those years to have those guys).  We need some big, tough players though and they don’t get much bigger than Power.  Ya gotta love his name too!  (Yea, that’s probably not the best draft criteria though, right?)
