It's not because i can afford my rent, pay all my bills every month and have some wiggle room budget wise that i should be fine with paying $250 for a sh!tty Tim Hortons coffee every day. And that it's not a problem.

hopefully you get my drift there.

$250 for a cup of coffee? That’s some expensive coffee. 😜

I'm obviously not asking him to barrel over the goalie every time he goes down the ice.  You're making it sound way worse than what he's doing.  He is trying to stop.  I want him to continue to play on the edge and if he ends up taking a penalty every now and then, whatever, take care of it on the PK and move on (last night it didn't work out so well).  I think the utility of making a goalie feel anxiety about having to worry about bracing himself for potential impact outweighs the ideally less likely occurrence of Miles getting sent to the box.

That makes what I said even more evident. It’s not anything other than a lack of awareness. I like a little of it, but two penalties resulting in two goals and the loss of a game that we played a little like ass for at least half of that we could’ve still won.

If he was doing that and scoring 25 goals a year and taking only a few extra penalties, that’s good. But being low goal producer (outside of a fluke season) and taking two penalties for every one goal (like last night) would not be good.

Not that we’re playing for a Cup here this year, but still, stupidity gave a game away as far as I’m concerned.

I don't care for it much at all and if Mac is on the other end of something like that and gets hurt and we're looking at Wedgewood for an extended period of time I would loathe it.

At this level I don't think the goalie should fear the guy just can't stop and seems to have a lack of awareness on top of it. If the guy coming in gets help from behind that's different, a goalie getting bumped in the crease is also different to me.

Happy to see Jack get off to a fast start sans the SO.

I mean, he does it on a clean breakaway without any defender to try to avoid. There’s really no excuse for it, and if there was a guy on the opposing team with a reputation for it, we’d all hate him and be calling for his head.

That's exactly what I'm saying.  Can't have it both ways, well I guess you can.

Yup, I was agreeing. I think people assume my default position is that I’m not so I’m just clarifying lol.

We can have it both ways like with other things, we’re fans and we need not be rational. But I don’t like what he does.

Well maybe we simply have different definition of what "running the goalie" means.

My definition is literally crashing into the goalie.

What's yours?

No, you're right, I didn't literally mean crashing into the goalie every time.  I'm sure you can get the gist of it though.

Does he really do it on a clean breakaway though?  I'm pretty sure he had a ton of back pressure.  Don't disagree with your second point, but there are a lot of players in that category that I would certainly want on the Devils.  And I'm sure you would too.

Last night one was a breakaway but with a guy behind him, but not pushing him whatsoever. One was him just backing into the goalie and sitting in him while trying to set a screen. Both showed awful awareness.

On his goal, he managed not to demolish the goalie, but just because he missed him and crashed into the goalpost. On a breakaway.

I wish I could rewatch them so I can more fairly comment on what happened.  But since they aren't on NHL.com, I 'm going to stick by my guns and assume that you are exaggerating.  I agree that it is poor awareness though.  I'm certainly not saying that he has a well thought out plan while he is on the edge of losing the puck with every stride.

He was a sh!t show on his goal.. but it wasn't a penalty!

I’m all about running the opposing goalie in the playoffs. You let that motherfvcker know it ain’t gonna be a Sunday drive in a short series if he starts off hot. Whenever the Devils have been in the playoffs and facing a hot goaltender, my first priority early in a game is to run that bitch into the fifth row and set the tone. Hit me with the goalie interference penalty, I’ll pay that price to rattle the dude. It figures the Devils would have a player that does this during a time in their history where they’re perennially terrible and don’t ever even sniff the playoffs.

i just re-watched and still laughed at Ty Smith's goal.

Great pull and shot by him.

Then McAvoy kicks out his leg and the puck hit it... deflects on Lauron's leg... fly up... Lauzon takes a whack at it... hits it.... flies towards McAvoy again who tries to... hit it with his shoulder.... and it goes into the net lol

It really was insane, and made more insane that that was Smith’s first NHL goal lol.
