Colorado Rockies 1976
Boston was going to score at ES at some point. Never would’ve imagined they’d only manage two SO wins in six games against the Devils.
Jerrydevil
Besides seeing a more dynamic power play, I'd like to see our players finish checks when the opportunity presents itself. We're not that hard to play against.

I think the simple (not simple?) answer is just - continue to grow, mature. He's such a good transitional player. Devils Pride 26
Missed this one. Probably for the best. Never good to blow a 2 goal lead in the 3rd. Keep stringing points together though.

He’s 19. Look around the league at all his peers. Any of them lighting it up? Dahlin? I was told on this very board he’s the next Lidstrom. He’s been horrendous all season. Like actively bad. The Rags have a couple studs that went 1 and 2 though so that sucks. Those two have a combined 17 points this season, and Laf (I was also told on this very board he’s on another level compared to Jack) is having an even worse rookie season than Hughes did last year. Pretty sure Wayne Simmonds isn’t on that team either. How about Stutzle? He’s got to be destroying the weak competition in the North on a nightly basis right? *checks notes* nope 19 points in 33 GP. Less goals than Jack. I could certainly go on, and if I’m forgetting any other 19 year olds that are making Jack look bad by all means let me know. But the fact is none of the other highly touted young kids across the league are doing any better from a production standpoint. I’m frustrated with Jack’s slump, too. I’m sure we all are. But he looks like a good player most nights. And he clearly took a step forward from last year (that’s what we all wanted to see right?). To me the biggest difference from his hot start to now is he looks like he might of lost a lot of that weight he put on in the offseason. Which makes sense considering he contracted covid and has probably seen very little of the weight room with this insane schedule. I mean, they barely have time for full practices right now. It’s fvcked. Obviously we all want to see more points. But if you watch this kid play and don’t think he’s going to be a very, very good player in a few years when he’s 22-23 I just don’t know what to tell you.

It's going to happen even sooner than that, in my opinion. I'm not worried about him. He has great skills and wants to be a great NHL player. You see it all the time, highly touted players taking off in their third or fourth season. Not everyone can be Sidney Crosby or Alexander Ovechkin. Those kinds of phenoms don't happen very often.
Devils Pride 26
Watching the highlights now and I’ve got to say, Bratt’s effort is disappointing at times. On the game tying goal, he just doesn’t sell out to block the pass from getting off. Goal 1 I can forgive Blackwood on for a) playing lockdown lately and b) puck being a knuckled, end over end. Need Nico back to bump Zacha to wing again. McLeod is a very interesting development. Without a clearly defined role on the 4th line, he’s shown flashes of high skill (Philly, toe drag attempt last game, sleek back hand move tonight). He very well could be found money at this point. Playing with confidence now. No PP highlights. Not good
Jerrydevil
Also, a good sign: Jack is no slouch defensively. He's not good at faceoffs, but he is far, far from a liability when he doesn't have the puck. That's good. In our history, our top forwards are usually at least competent defensive players.

Not everyone can be Sidney Crosby or Alexander Ovechkin. Those kinds of phenoms don't happen very often. Or a Matthews, or a Kane, or a McDavid. We definitely got spoiled as hockey fans to see such a long stretch of absolutely dominant young players. Jack is obviously not on that level. But if he can be a Barzal (didn’t crack the NHL full time until 20) type player for us I’ll be plenty happy with that. And this is certainly not isolated to just Jack. All of a sudden a bunch of the young 1’s and 2’s are struggling to be impact players right out of the gate. Jack turning into another Yakupov is not even remotely a concern for me. That kid was s POS, with questionable work ethic.

I know this is a GDT thread so hyperbole is often excused following a tough loss, but the kid is 19. That’s a 1 followed by a 9. He’s battled through Covid and is playing 57 games a week all the while being keyed in by other team’s top pairs. Yet, he’s still getting and creating tons of chances and playing his tail off on both ends of the rink. I’m ecstatic with him and his progress.

I am not even worried about what he will be in the future. What happens happens, hopefully it’s good. But right now, he is a good hockey player, not a great hockey player. Yes, he’s young. That’s how it works. Arguing that his line mates are not good enough drives me crazy. You have guys like Kuokkanen, Sharangovich, and of course Wood have all been contributing. We were making fun of Palms and now he ran right past him in points. Bratt too. Those guys are “creating”. Jack isn’t creating sh!t right now. Is it that he isn’t good enough, or he is too young? No idea, we’ll find out. My point is not (and has never been) about his future, just his present.
Nicomo
Saying he’s not creating is false. He’s not finishing. There’s a big difference.
