Mets have signed Josh Reddick to a minor league deal

Actually had no idea he was still in baseball and playing for the D-Backs this season.

On this note, Jake Arrieta was just released by the Cubs.  Gotta think the Mets scoop him up, just because (they go to the scrap heap as much as anyone).

Only the Mets could come up with 12 hits through 5 innings and manage just four runs.  Back-to-back Ks in the fourth with the bases loaded no less.  Baby steps I guess...we'll see if they can take this home.

And sorry Marcus, gotta go a little longer than 5.1 IP...7 inning game or not.  At least get through 6.

His numbers have looked awful for a while, it's been a pretty steady decline from his all world 2015 season, but why the hell not. Maybe he catches lightning in a bottle here for a month or so.

His last 15 starts:  58.1 IP, 91 H, 19 HR (?!), 28 BB, 2.04 WHIP, 1.065 OPS against, 8.95 ERA

Basically this is Matt Harvey-at-his-worst bad, but Jake is 35 and like you said, has just gotten steadily worse in recent years.

Sadly, this looks like a guy who's simply 100% finished.  He'll likely be just as rotten as Eichkoff and some of the other drek the Mets have thrown out there.  There's simply no lightning left to be caught...and if there somehow was, do you think Jeremy Hefner's the guy who's going to find it?

Outstanding job by Loup today. Have to go out and take the 2nd game now. Erick Fedde is bad (and so is Trevor Williams) Mets have got to jump on them early once again.

This could be one of those games where both teams crack double-digits in runs.  Now watch the Mets lose 3-2 or something close.

Yeah, the Nationals are dead men walking...they might not even win 70 games.  Mets have 8 more games against them before the season ends, after today's Game 2...they'd better win at least 7 of them.  I think they're gonna need them.

Heh heh, so of course it's 0-0 after two innings.

Make that 0-0 after three.  Of course.

Four scoreless from Williams...couldn't have expected that.

Thank God Alonso pulls it out of the fire for us.

They looked shaky doing it...I won't say they've righted the ship until they go out West and not get clobbered. I would've liked to have seen a focused team just stomp out the Nats playing crisp baseball. Really there were moments in every game of this series where the Mets could've let it get away. They just have trouble with EVERYONE.

Yeah, every team is a battle.  But at least they swept a series they absolutely HAD to sweep.

When you bring in losers in big spots, loser-y things tend to happen.  Did anyone REALLY think that the Mets were hanging onto that lead with Familia in the game?

Re:  both Familia and Diaz, I have a hard time remember two relievers who fail as spectacularly as they do...it's not just coughing up a lead, or giving up a HR...it's wild pitches, hit batsmen (Castro has that in him as well)...pitches that aren't even close.

Outside of Loup (who just seems to get it done every time), is there anyone else in the pen who's really trustworthy?  Or another way of putting it...if any of the rest come in and blow a game, are any of us going to be all that shocked?

Pete seems to think everything's fine now...hey, had to pull out just about all of the stops to sweep the Nats, but OK.

We'll see what he's saying after these 13 games.

Goddamn did Darling call THAT one!

Yeah the audio Gelbs posted of it was something. Pitchers can be smart, Smoltz came close to calling the Tim Anderson HR off of Britton in the Field of Dreams game by pointing out before the AB it was a good matchup for him as a low ball hitter against a sinking fastball.

Too bad Familia has reverted back to form.

Yeah just another Land of Endless Chances moment here…Familia should’ve been gone before this season ever started.  We’ve seen this crap from him so many times.
