Petterson is apparently looking at Marner for a comparable for his contract in Vancouver.

They are in trouble

A lot of guys to sign for next season too.  But it seems like so many teams in "trouble" find ways to move expendables, to make sure that they keep the players that they really want.

yeah maybe they can but what's the consequences? When you're already not great and that you have to sacrifice depth, it's never too good

I don’t know who Vancouver can move. They dumped a bunch of junk earlier this offseason already. They also gave Connor Garland a pretty decent deal too.

I referred to Quinn Hughes on Reddit as “future Devil Quinn Hughes”, and was told that he is about to sign a nice fat 8 year deal. That may complicate things even further, if a dude from Reddit is correct.

I think the rumor earlier this week was 8x8. Somehow they will have made the OEL gamble look like an even more awful decision if they can't make it work with Pettersson.

He's taken a behind the scenes role with the teams development system and as a consultant. Very cool.

Seems like he could have probably signed a 1 year deal somewhere in the league but really doesn't wanna be away from his family nor move them from Jersey.

Just for the hell of it, I checked out the 2012 team. With Zajac retired, only 3 or 4 players from that team remain in the NHL depending on if Greene is on a wacky secret contract thing with Lou. And 5 others are playing in Europe or the KHL.

Andy Greene signed with the Isles for 1 year at $750K for 21-22 season.

So, i'm sure Fitz has an open offer for Taransenko that is pretty cheap and not willing to give more. So now that the Islanders are likely out for sure. Who knows, if the situation in St-Louis doesn't get better and that they have to move him. We may get him for dirt cheap and worth the gamble.

With the cap room we have, if St Louis is against the wall we are in prime position to get him without giving up much. Definitely worth a shot.

It sounds like Tarasenko and STL will have a  truce of sorts to let him play and rebuild his value before a deal is made. He ain’t moving before the season.
