I hope to God the Rangers sell the farm to land Eichel. Dolan couldn't resist putting his greasy mitts on their rebuild, let's hope it's one risky move too many.

thats what im hoping. That they trade for him and send WAY too much, kill their depth/prospects pool and that Eichel sh!t the bed

That being said, a Panarin - Eichel line is fvcking scary

And hopefully they pay through the nose if they do. No bullsh!t like Philip Chytil and a 1st rounder. They better PAY. For once.

From what was reported when JD and Gorton were fired was that Dolan felt that the team was much closer to being in a win-now mode than JD and Gorton felt.  The Rangers are pretty thin at center and they don't want to waste any more of Panarin's good years left.  I could def see a directive where Dolan is alright with parting with either Laf or Kakko to obtain Eichel.  I don't think the price will be that high due to the Rangers justifiably having concerns about Eichel's health.

Yea, I can't see Buffalo sticking to 4 1st's in value...  if they are getting a 1OA or 2OA back in the deal.

Went ahead and looked at the Devils, too, because why not. Here are a list of players the Devils will need to re-sign next year (I'm adding Kuok and Sharangovich to the list, but that has to happen this season). They'll have $44.5m in cap room (to get to the ceiling) and need to re-sign:

  1. Miles Wood $4m
  2. Jesper Bratt $5m
  3. Jesper Boqvist $3m
  4. Jack Hughes $8m (I see a breakout coming)
  5. Janne Kuokkonen $3m
  6. Yegor Sharangovich $3.5m
  7. PK Subban (Walk)

In summary: anyone worried about Tarasenko's contract or Hamilton's contract is uninformed. That puts us $27m below the cap ceiling next year, AKA $7m below the goddamned floor!

Also a pre-emptive response; I know I'm off on some of these contracts. It was just a little mini thought exercise.

its the next wave that might get tricky with Luke Hughes coming out of his ELC and Kuokkanen and Sharangovich potentially coming out of their bridge contract. And if Mercer is as good as we believe etc

Plus Quinn Hughes.

Not sure why anyone who's at all familiar with the Devils' cap would think that taking on Tarasenko's remaining two seasons could ever be an issue.  It's obvious the Devils can fit him in with no problems whatsoever.

That being said, assuming that the Devils did actually trade for him AND he managed to stay healthy, the short term remaining on his deal gives the Devils tons of flexibility.  If he kills it in his first year, they can sell high and move him in the offseason, to someone who may be closer to winning a Cup.  Obviously if they hang onto him and then he has another good year...not necessarily sure that I'd extend him (hopefully there will be options to replace him from within at that point, for much less $)...of course if the Devils are in a playoff hunt and they decide not to deal him at the 2022-23 deadline, yeah, they probably hang onto him and lose him for no return.  Can't always flip everybody for pieces that may or may not help you in 2-3 years.

I see him as a two-year rental that could really pay off nicely (especially since they may not have to give up that much outside of money to get him)...and should someone else decide to sign him to a 3+ year deal, we'll look back and say "Glad we got what we did out of him, and glad he's not here now"

Haha my bad. Totally missed that. I already loathe that motherfvcker. Good thing he isn’t really very good at hockey.

im actually legit worried that goons like him ruins one of our young guys career like Mike Richards did to Savard and like Matt Cooke did to David Booth. All it takes is a second.

If you’re legit worried about something like that, you’re inventing things to worry about. I’m not losing any sleep over Ryan Reaves. He’s a wanna-be Tom Wilson. Tom Wilson is actually good though.

I know Richards had a bad hit on Savard, but wasn't it Cooke who effectively ended his career, too?
