Oh they are presenting the Campbell Bowl.

Yeah,  I don't get it at all. I thought there were no conferences this year? If there were, why was it technically possible for Vegas and Boston to play each other in the third round??? (I'm only using that as an example because that's how things were going to shape out in my bracket - obviously it didn't come true, but I was surprised to see that that's how it would have been if I was right with my picks).

This whole format is stupid as fvck.

I am not sure if I am more shocked about the Habs entire playoffs or that the Knights just completely sh!t the bed.

Ditto for me.  Both are equally surprising. Vegas absolutely choked and were a major let down, but then again the Habs just keep surprising everyone.

Really weird seeing an Eastern Conference team receive the trophy that is normally presented to the Western Conference champions.

Yeah man, I'm actually pretty fvcking pissed. They're screwing with traditions and history. I mean, how did they even decide that, and why?

Don't get why they couldn't have done conferences this year, and put the east and central divisions in the East, and west and north divisions in the West.  Then 1 can play 8, 2 vs 7, and so on, and after the first round, highest remaining seed plays lowest remaining seed, as normal. How is that actually difficult?

Because Canada has super strict covid regulations

They had to keep the Canadian teams separate. Didn't they reseed after the 2nd round once there was only one Canadian team left?

When the playoffs started they weren't allowing any fans at all in the arenas in Canada. Couldn't they have moved the Canadian teams to the US then everyone could have played each other like normal until the finals started? If they had them in a couple spots it could have even been accelerated.

I know that would be convenient for American fans, but where would the Canadian teams play? All games would be at the US teams arenas? That seems way more convoluted than the way they handled it. I agree it wasn't ideal, but they had to do something. There was no way a regular alignment was going to work

I don't see how it is more convoluted, since then you could have tried to better keep the original playoff format of East vs West, but I would agree it is more complicated logistically to rent out other team's arenas or have a neutral location to play similar to the bubble.  At least then you aren't awarding an eastern team the western trophy.

EDIT: When I read this I interpret convoluted as meaning hard to understand but now I think you just mean more complicated/complex which, like I said, I do agree with.

This whole year has been fvcked but I'm happy they are handing out the trophies at least cause I originally read they weren't and thought it was a dumb decision.

Probably came down to as simple as Tampa and Islanders are both normally eastern conference teams so makes sense to award the Campbell to Vegas or Montreal. Everything has been so screwed up cause of covid that nobody is ever gonna care that a "east" team won the Campbell in the future. It is what it is.

Also pretty silly to see only 3.5k inside the building yet thousands on top of each other outside with no masks. There's really no reason they couldn't let more than 3.5k at this point. They could have done 10k easily with people still being separated.

I have a feeling the arena will be full next time they play.

I know that - I'm not saying they had to do anything different in terms of the schedule or and transportation - but from a purely high level and optics point of view, why couldn't they have kept everything the same but theoretically still had "conferences", even if they didn't have inter-division games?

Maybe we'll get to celebrate like this outside the arena in 2034....

2034, another 13 years of the rebuild before we can celebrate a Championship? Your prediction is probably correct based on the performance since 2015.
