90s was a such a great time, re:  music.  And yeah, first Green Day album was terrific.  Ditto Ten.

Both were very important to me as a musician as well. My first paying gig was in a Pear Jam cover band. Basically we played the first two albums and a few b-sides, because that’s all there was at the time. I remember when they did “Not For You” on SNL, I immediately grabbed a guitar to start learning it.

If there's any other videogamers here, you can skip EA NHL again. NHL22 is the exact same fvcking game they've been lazily trotting out since 2014. You're paying $60 for a roster update, some new fonts, and a new-but-still-very-sh1tty soundtrack. I wish 2K could take a shot at making an NHL game again.

Ridiculously disappointing.  The innovation from year to year is... nonexistent.

All about HUT now and the lootbox mechanic.  EA fvcking sucks.

I had a Dookie T-shirt when I was in the 6th grade. I remember my teacher not caring for it one bit lol.

Green Day was definitely one of my first favorite bands though. Probably after only Nirvana.

The best part is that i was obviously 100% french at 10 years old when it came out. And it's likely not something you guys ever went through unless you were really into Rammstein or something lol but you LOVE the music just don't understand what they are saying lol

So i'd bring the booklet to school and ask my teachers to translate the lyrics for me.

Well let me tell you that when you're putting teachers in a position where they have to translate "when masturbation lost its fun you're fvcking breaking" to a clueless 10 years old. In hindsight i wish i could be a fly from the future on the wall to see that again.

And you bring up nirvana... same thing happened with the song Rape Me lolololol

Green Day - Dookie and Nirvana - Nevermind will always be my top 2 albums of all time.

Yeah amazing time for music. For my tastes personally. Then the VHS craze. I grew up across the street from a VHS rental place so i basically lived there. For movies... there was some super super heavy hitters like Jurassic Park, Terminator 2, Pulp Fiction, Se7en, Scream, etc etc obviously but overall it's not in the same ballpark as the 80s for movies IMO, especially horror movies.

VHS was more mid-80s…that’s when they became affordable enough for many people.  They were insanely (and prohibitively) expensive before that.  But the tapes themselves became cheap enough as the decade closed that consumers could afford them, and build up large collections (even though they were obviously bulky).

Not only did I like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, STP and others quite a bit as grunge exploded, but I loved what they did for metal and alternative…suddenly you could hear those genres on the radio…stations were even changing long-standing formats to air them.

And with movies, yeah, CGI was becoming more and more convincing…that first Jurassic Park was absolutely mindblowing.  And you are right, lots of heavy hitters in the 90s indeed.  I would agree that the 80s was a more memorable decade for horror movies.

Maybe in the US and major cities yeah, i know the first blockbuster opened in 85 and they could afford a $1500 VHS lol but by the time small towns like where i grew up started having small rental store and catching up, also by the time people started buying VCR so they rent movies, it was early 90s where i was grew up, which is in the middle of nowhere lol

When my dad first bought one, we weren’t even allowed to touch it, only he could put the tapes in lol. It was that expensive.

I think I saw that very VCR in his basement over the summer, in a stack of about 5 of them. My parents are not hoarders to where they have a room full of aluminum cans, but they save everything lol.

Gotcha.  My family first bought a VCR in 1983…they were about $400 at the time…it seemed like suddenly, within the next year or two, everyone I knew had at least one in their homes.  That’s about when the first rental stores began to pop up…by me, they were initially more mom-and-pop places…they even carried Betamax movies when they first opened.  Those places really lost their sh!t if you had forgotten to rewind the tapes upon returning them.

One of my friends had rented a porn flick (think it was called Romancing The Bone, heh heh), and thought he had gotten away with it…one day I was hanging with him at his house, and his dad comes home with a rental tape…my friend asks him about it, and his dad answers “Whatever it is, I’m sure you won’t like it nearly as much as Romancing The Bone.”  Plenty of awkward silence followed.  Apparently he saw his membership’s rental log, and was rather surprised to see that title on the list.  And a tad unhappy.

One thing is clear: neither Nicomo, nor I, will ever see our football teams win anything CLOSE to even resembling something meaningful in either of our lifetimes.

Eh, we took a team that’s been to 2 consecutive NFC championship games to OT. I would have loved a win, but we went toe-to-toe with Rodgers the whole game. The 5 missed FG’s in a row at the end was just nuts though. I’ve never seen anything like it.

But I’m cautiously optimistic about our future. We have our QB in Burrow, and the defense has been keeping us in games. Plus, Ja’Marr Chase is fvcking phenomenal. We just need a new coach.

Just blew through Squid Game, enjoyed the hell out of it.

I’m one episode in, so far so good.

one question, and I’m 100% serious, is it supposed to be dubbed or subtitled? While the dub isn’t awful, I think I’d rather watch it subtitled….

In finally caught The Many Saints of Newark. It was… a movie I suppose. I didn’t hate it but it kind of felt like Sopranos cosplay at some points. The little twist at the end was pretty interesting and I wish they’d thought of it for the original show. It would have brought a good dynamic.

All in all, maybe a 6-12 episode series would have been better than trying to cram so much into a movie.

For someone who hasn’t watched the sopranos, should I start with Newark or the series?

Probably the series. The movie has a ton of references and Easter eggs and solves one of the shows mysteries.  I just rewatched the whole series earlier this year and it really is a hell of a show.
I watched it when it was on originally but watching it now when I am roughly Tony’s age in the show definitely connected with me more

I thought the same, didn't realise you could go subtitles. But after a while the dubbing actually became part of the experience for me.

Didn’t enjoy Many Saints on my first watch. Felt like two movies and neither of them really had a plot. The 70’s portion of the movie was way better.

I’ve heard Chase really wanted to make a movie about the riots in Newark and the only way HBO would let him is if he made it about The Sopranos. Well the part about the riots didn’t even tell a very good story about the riots.

That being said the actress playing Tony’s mom absolutely nailed it. She deserves an Oscar.

NEVER watch anything dubbed if subtitles are available. The only acceptable dubs are spaghetti westerns. And that’s just because it’s how the Italians made movies back then.

Anyone know anything about soundbars For Smart TVs? I read they can really improve the sound, so I bought a nice Bose one but quickly learned it was too big to fit in my entertainment unit, or the TV is too big.

Do they make anything compact that accomplishes the same thing?
