Georgiev had just played his third NHL season, starting 30+ games in each of his second and third seasons. The Rangers were not sending Georgiev to the AHL for a season so that a friggin’ 38-year-old who might not have much left could play ahead of him. They were not giving Lundqvist starts at Shesterkin’s expense. Yes, it was probably a tough decision for that franchise, but it was the right one. The Rangers were also able to get some cap space back, for a guy who was never going to live up to the value of that final season. It’s not the travesty that want to make it.
