Palms with another goal tonight…10th in his last 16 GP.  Didn’t think he had another burst like that in him.

Pretty special moment in philly with the team celebrating Giroux for his 1000th game and the same night having him do potentially one last lap on the ice after the game in case he's indeed traded

Obviously can’t stand Philly but that’s a great moment if it truly is the end of his run there

I don't know whats more funny to me:

  • The fact it took that long
  • The fact Ranger fans are trying en masse to explain it away by saying "he only gets like 30 seconds a power play so of course he doesn't have any points"
  • The fact Johnsson is the next lowest with only 2

I don't know enough about how much power play time he gets to know the significance. Or Johnsson for that matter, its something I never look at the minutes for.

But fvck that girl name having b!tch.

If you’re getting any power play time and it takes you 115 games to record your first point that’s pretty dreadful.

But just for the record he had 134 career power play minutes going into that game…

You would think in 134 minutes he could have at least accidentally touched the puck close enough to a goal being scored to get a secondary assist...

Jesus.... like it wasn't enough that the fuel and house market price goes up like crazy... now this

All this for a dude with 61 pts in 108 games. 6th round pick in 2016.

Steep price for a guy not moving a needle

He did pot 13 G in his last 25 GP (21 points)...he was trending upwards.

Also only making $1.5 million over each of the next two seasons.  He could wind up being a very nice bargain, as far as performance vs salary goes.

The two first-rounders (2023 and 2024) figure to be lower of course.

That being said...we know how it goes when you're in the thick of a legit SC contending window.  Over the next three seasons, the Lighting will have exactly (1) first round pick (2022, though maybe they deal that one off too), (1) second round pick (2024), and (2) third round picks (2023 and 2024).  They've already won two Cups and could still win another in the near future, so not like their fans will care much...but they're definitely not going to be fortifying themselves through the draft anytime soon.

He makes next to nothing and has term, as well. Also, those two firsts are late picks and are worthless to Tampa in their cup window. They get two fourth rounders back (which isn’t far below the value of the late firsts).

He’s a Coleman/Goodrow type player that a contender would love on their third line. His point production this year ain’t bad either. Well done Tampa.

The thing about this is, if you have a competent scouting team and GM, you might still be able to find quality talent in the third and fourth rounds.

Well yeah, sure that can happen, but obviously it’s much less of a guarantee as you go into later rounds.  And I’m not knocking the Lightning for using first-rounders to nab players who can help them keep winning, while they still have stars in their prime.  They got a young player who’s been productive as of late and is on a cheap deal for two more seasons after this one.  I get why they paid the price.
