He was the captain of two Cup-winning teams, and during both Cup runs raised his game well beyond his regular season numbers (especially in 2012). He's the all-time leader in games played for the Kings franchise, and he played every single one of his games as a King. As far as the statue goes, my first thought (without knowing one way or the other, as I only really knew about Brown the player, and not even all that much in the department) was "OK, he had a fine career for the Kings, played there forever, but nothing that screams 'STATUE!' There's gotta be more to it than that. Maybe he's heavily involved in charity work and philanthropy?" So I checked it out, and it turns out the guy is not only incredibly beloved in the LA area, but indeed is VERY heavily involved in charity work: Dustin Brown Named Finalist for NHL Foundation Award Kings to Retire Dustin Brown's No. 23 and Unveil Statue (nhl.com) So the statue is really more for "Dustin Brown, The Entire Package, A Guy Who Gives Back and Keeps On Giving Back", than for just what he did on the ice. Not sure how many of these deals were signed with the foresight of a flat cap. Kane/Towes/Doughty got paid for their cups. Interesting graphic but depending on the lense it can be skewed.
