So last night MTL brought back Hammond from the dead. The last time he played in the NHL was 4 years ago. They are also fvcked in net but i think it's a good indication of how hard it is to get good goalies at the moment. Some teams in the playoffs may want to either stick to their tandem or even getting a better backup and many bottom teams would just want 1 good.

I think this will make Chicago able to get a really decent return on Fleury if they want to move him.

The Rangers however might decide to go all in and bet fully on Shesterkin and trade Georgiev (who requested a trade earlier this season) for something that could help them on the ice rather than a backup on the bench.

Colombus may also have a decision to make with Korpisalo who's heading to free agency and with Merzlikins taking over the #1 roal and signed long term.

Holtby could also be traded potentially maybe.

I read somewhere that Vegas was interested in bringing MAF back.

Yeahh... Vegas is probably the most ALL-OUT team in the league (ironic i know). They literally traded all their first round picks for immediate help and they are very clearly not looking at the future at all. That core of players in their prime will all age and walk into the sunset around the same time. If they don't start making some sacrifices for the long-term.

But man oh man. They better win the cup in the next few years cause they are heading towards very dark times already and if they don't have a cup before that to at least justify it, it will get very ugly and im not sure their pre-game shows will compensate for a sh!t product on the ice that the fanbase got used to right out of the gate, they will be a very very spoiled fanbase.

If that franchise ever struggles, we’re gonna find out about those fans. They haven’t had any adversity AT ALL. No losing AT ALL. How would Vegas handle the type of season that we’re having? I think they’d lose their minds. They’ve literally known nothing but success, from day one.

That team will probably always draw well due to their location. I’m sure they sell plenty of tickets to people just visiting and looking for non-gambling activities to do. But yeah, as far as STH and their core fans go, it would be interesting to see. They’ve certainly been spoiled so far.

It certainly is interesting in that respect, they probably draw more non-fans than any other team based exactly on what you mentioned. I honestly don’t know much about their actual fan base or how strong they are, but I can imagine that failure after immediate success would be an issue for a new fan base.

Yup precisely what i'm saying haha and IMO there's no "if". That franchise will struggle. They literally traded all their top prospects like Suzuki, Glass, Krebs, Brandstrom for guys years older than them.

I mean you just look at their draft history. They only had 5 drafts and go through the list and see how many of those guys are on their roster now haha https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/teams/dr00011894.html And reading on their current prospect, nothing that is too too impressive. Their top forward prospect is currently playing with Luke Hughes and they have the same amount of points. Yet Luke is a D and 2 years younger.

Then there's long term contracts. In 2026-2027 Pietrangelo, Stone and Eichel will still be signed and be 36, 34 and 29. They also currently have some very good deal signed but that expires in the next few years. Then their top producers at the moment may not be there anymore or be way past 30. Stephenson, Marchessault, theodore, smith, pacioretty, roy, dadonov... etc will all be over 30 and some of them are already over.

Then one of their youngest player is Nolan Patrick. Who's a sneeze away from having to retire

So yeah, they better win now or start being a bit more careful for the future.

1) I can’t believe how young Eichel still is, it seems like he has been around forever.

2) I hope Nolan Patrick didn’t already sneeze after that MacKinnon hit.

You can probably find 40 examples of people saying that about the Rangers before they sent out that letter to fans. Citing their lack of upcoming draft picks, their abhorrently empty prospect pool, etc.

But what people forgot to take into account is -- much like the Yankees in baseball, Duke in college basketball, Alabama in college football -- if they're ever down, they won't be down long. Everyone wants to play there. The Rangers had the best UFA in the history of fvcking free agency sign there for cheaper than his own team offering to retain him. Last year's Norris winner was drafted by another team and said "trade me to the Rangers or I'm not playing in the NHL". Shesterkin is the best goaltender on the planet and he ell to the 4th round because it seemed unlikely he would ever come to the United States, until the beloved Rangers drafted him that is!

Vegas is *that* kind of place. Listen to any podcast; guys fvcking love playing there and love living there. Love the weather, obviously love the nightlife, and love the barn. That place won't ever be down for long, and I would guarantee that.

The Rangers have that thing on their own living in the most known city in the world and being an original 6 teams. Other teams have good thing going in term of location and all like Florida and Tampa (plus no state tax which let you pocket more money etc). I'm sure its great to play in Vegas at the moment. But i highly doubt they reach the Rangers territory in terms of destination players would go there or nowhere else.

yeah pretty rare for a gm to step out that way especially concerning a guy who was beloved in that city. I found it pretty odd.

Now back to Lou.

Well if the rumour is false well then you want to shut that down so that it doesn't create distraction.

Or maybe its true but he doesn't want his goalies to feel like he's looking at better options. I dunno, people react differently to situations. Some goalies it might light up a fire under them, some it might make them crumble

So Frank Seravalli is reporting that we've had conversations with the Blackhawks about LW Brandon Hagel. 23 years old / 14g 13 assists this season. Said to be a Coleman type of player.

https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/seravalli-4-new-trade-targets-🎯-with-4-weeks-until-tdeadline/

What's interesting (assuming that this is true) is that rumours can indicate what a GM is trying to do / get. And in this case, potentially interesting that we'd go after this sort of player on the left side. Could this have anything to do with Wood or Zacha's future?

That being said i wouldn't trade our first round pick for him. Unless we trade someone and get a late first, then maybe i'd explore trading that one.

The good thing though is that if Fitz really wants to get young players from selling teams. Most buyers are playoffs teams so our picks will be higher than theirs so that might play in our favour.

Man that guy just doesn't move the needle at all. 6th round pick who's hasn't even played 100 career games yet as a 23 year old. Don't we have enough 3rd line wingers?

He again mentions the Devils when discussing Boeser. That's something I'd love to get done.

Yeah which is why i say its interesting that (if true) that im curious as to why we'd be looking at that kind of player on the left side. Could id be that we'd be sending our current player of that style into a trade to get something else?

Like say another non-playoffs team always loved Wood for example. They may be inquiring on his health and disposability and say that's a trade we'd be interested in. Fitz might be inquiring on younger players with a similar role to fill that gap.

There's often a lot of moving parts

Could the Devil's somehow swing a three way trade with the Rangers for Georgiev?

i'd love that considering he apparently asked for a trade so maybe that'd light a fire under his ass anytime we'd play them.

I wonder if the Devils tell Columbus "hey if you don't have a dancing partner by the trade deadline we'll give you a 3rd round pick for Elvis". A bottom-feeder like the Devils trading assets for a to-be UFA seems stupid, but this upcoming draft is booty and these kids need to actually experience winning a few hockey games. Maybe we trade for him and the Devils finish the season respectably and the Devils have the inside-track at signing him to a decent contract.

Every metric says this Devils team is a bubble playoff team with moderately acceptable goaltending. I'd like to see them finish strong.

yeah so that they have results to back up keeping Nasredinne and the coaching staff for next season.... We need a trainwreck.

Only way it would happen. They should have absolutely no interest in helping us improve. Just as I would have no interest in helping them improve. Goes against the laws of the universe.

I could be wrong, but didn’t Columbus sign Elvis to an extension last summer? EDIT: Yep. It's become home for Merzlikins and his family, and it appears it will stay that way now that he signed a five-year, $27 million contractextension Tuesday that runs through the 2026-27 season.    https://www.nhl.com/bluejackets/news/elvis-merzlikins-stays-home-in-columbus-with-new-deal/c-326261672

I mean, wouldn’t they have to be ok with it in a three way trade?

He's signed until 27.

EDIT: 2027

So you are saying Elvis is not leaving the building…
