The level of his streakiness was often exaggerated, but yeah, he’s always been streaky.

I was mentioning it mostly because based on the way he’s looked since the start of last season, I wasn’t sure if he had a streak like this in him anymore.  And based on not really getting a lot of SOG, this feels like it could be more of a fluke, than Palms suddenly again being that guy who could score goals in bunches from time to time.  It won’t surprise me if this burst ends abruptly.

Palms recently scored 10 G in 16 GP, but as so often is the case, a general lack of shots and a high shooting% pointed to this being a temporary burst...not that he could have ever been expected to stay on THAT pace, but hard to think the days of 30 G per 82 GP for him aren't firmly done.  He's now goal-less in his last 6 games (only 9 SOG total)...as an Islander, if you include his playoff games, he's played 87 GP and managed 20 G and 16 A.

There's things we can get on Fitz for (not sacking some or all of the coaching staff), and your organization getting to snag two centers 1OA sure doesn't hurt (like we've all noted, the story around here is a hell of a lot more bleak if it's Patrick and Kakko here instead of Nico and Jack), but gotta give Fitz major kudos for this one...even if the Stillman pick doesn't thrill you, Palms was a popular player here who wanted to stay, and some GMs would've kept him and hoped that he was just having a down year.  Fitz instead managed to get something back for him, while a team within his division is paying him for decline years.

Not sure if I’m happy or sad that we don’t appear in this.

I think they can get out of the first round. The Bolts aren't the same. They've been getting by mostly due to Vasilevskiy. It depends what the 2 vs 3 match-up is.  If it's the Bruins, I'd take them. They have found balance. Plus Swayman is impressive.

The big question for the Leafs is Campbell. Can he come back healthy and find it? Lightning host Carolina tonight.

“getting by” isn’t the phrase I’d use to apply to tampa, I live in central florida and watch probably half of their games.

They’re getting excellent goaltending — that’s what happens when you have the best goaltender of his era in his prime in net. Don’t think that’s unsustainable.

I kind of hate how many hockey fans are trying to take away credits from him because he has a good team in front of him. Of course it helps not having guys left all by themselves for an easy tap in like 20% of the goals against us. But anyone watching him can see that he's amazing

As any Devils fan should. I still see people to this day try and downplay how good Marty was because of the Scott’s, low shots against, etc.

Ofc that one is easy to refute though, considering he won 2 Vezina’s after those guys were gone.

yeah i think his best season stat wise was when those guys were gone.

I mean did Brodeur benefit from the trap? well if we're honest yeah, it limited chances but it doesn't take away anything from his personal skills, which when it was needed, he was there. Plus his playmaking and way to play the puck / being a 3rd defender was also helping the team a lot. But other teams played the trap, and still to this day.

I mean obviously it helps (having a strong team) for the wins. but still. It's just a lame excuses fans use all the time and often they flop back and forth... Like when Habs fans wanted to make a case that Price was the best, they used the fact that he had a sh!t team in front of him to claim he was even better because of that. But when he sucked, they used it as an excuse to justify why he sucked... well then which is it? lol

Crazy OT between the Oilers and the Kings right now.

Also Danault was pressured at the red line along the boards and played the puck back around the board to his goalie. I also saw it during the Tampa OT the other day.

So while i know it's the cool thing to do to sh!t on Severson and some suggested he made a mistake against MTL. It's a pretty common play now in OT.

Edit: super slick move by McDavid in the SO for the winning goal. Nasty
