Joely’s the lefty…I’m no huge fan, but they will need him at times…gotta give him some bigger spots and try to get him going consistently.  Means we’ll be holding our breaths (and cursing plenty) on occasion I’m sure.

19 K by Mets pitchers today.  Sweet Jesus.

And yeah to take four out of five and to be up 6.5 over the Braves, just like that…one hell of a job in this series.  Braves clearly have some serious question marks…they look like a team that can fatten up on bad teams, but maybe aren’t quite ready to play with the big boys (and yes of course we all know they won a World Series last year, but last year was last year).

Braves might want to start worrying the Phillies soon.

This team is special.

They need Jake and Max to stay healthy, but they’ve got some magic going.  And most of the time, they simply play the game very well…doesn’t mean they won’t lose some games, but you rarely see them beat themselves.

Diaz is just in an absurd place right now.  I’ve never seen this kind of short-term dominance before in a closer.

Since the start of July for Diaz:

14 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 29 K

Reds win today makes them 41-41 over their last 82 GP.  Definitely can’t take them lightly.  Credit to them for playing respectable ball after such a horrible start to their season.

Gotta think they’re playing with some confidence right now…winning this series against the Mets would be a major high point for them.

Mets did get some breaks in this series, no question.  But as far as the Braves go, hey, no one told you to start the season off 23-27.  Do that and you have a LOT less margin for error later…especially when the team you’re chasing has managed to avoid a prolonged slump ALL SEASON.

Something else worth pointing out:  offenses that over-rely on HRs and are prone to striking out a lot (like this year’s Braves) can look really REALLY bad when they’re cold, not to mention that top-end pitching (see Scherzer and deGrom) can make lineups like that look especially feeble…Sandy’s teams were similarly vulnerable quite often.

They can beat up plenty on weak starters and shaky bullpens, but teams like this tend to get exposed come playoff time, against better pitching staffs.  Look at the Yankees over the last several years.

Look, anything can happen in a short series (especially in the playoffs), but give me the 2022 Mets offense anytime.  Making contact, putting the ball in play, working counts, driving up pitch counts…that’s where it’s at.

The Braves and Phillies have split the first 12 games of their season series.  Will be interesting to see if the Phillies can throw a legit scare into them.

I just got the feeling Atlanta came in thinking all they had to do was throw their gloves on the field and they'd at least win 3, creep a bit closer....and still be very much in the Mets heads and in the thick of things in the NL East. Not so, Buck had the Mets ready and out for blood, and Scherzer and deGrom were absolute lights out brilliant. Not saying Altanta is out of it yet, but the Mets thoroughly smacked them down and played like a true championship team

Wow, I knew they had played more respectable ball after early on it looked like they were destined for one of those 110 loss disaster seasons...had no idea they are actually a solid .500 over half a season. You're right, Mets cant get too giddy here and have Atlanta creep back to less than 5 out

Still a lot of August left, but when the month ends I'd like us to be no less than 5.5 up

Oh BTW, the Mets’ BABIP and the Braves’ BABIP:

Mets (6th overall):  .302

Braves (7th overall):  .298

MLB overall in 2022:  .290

There goes that theory SPENCER.  fvck right off you crybaby with a stupid mustache.

And the Phillies are alive and well. They are in a good position to shake up the revised  wild card playoffs. Much can happen in the last 50 games.

Stay tuned.

The Nats will throw things off from time to time, because they are as dead men walking as it gets...it's to the point where you wonder how they beat ANYONE (they're 7-26 in their last 33 GP).  And the Phillies have fattened up on a LOT of bad teams lately, in boosting their record.

BUT, to be fair they have also gone 4-3 against the Padres, 4-3 against the Cards, and 4-3 against the Dodgers.  They've also gone 6-6 against the Braves.  So it's not like they never beat the better clubs...getting swept by the Cubs (at home no less) a few weeks ago definitely hurt them some.

The Phillies have seven games coming up against the Mets, and those will decide if they're a legit threat to the Braves.  The Mets have had their way with the Phillies so far; 9-3 against them this season.  Phillies do have seven games left against the Braves as well, so if they can go, say, 3-4 or 4-3 against the Mets, they probably still have a chance to move ahead of the Braves, if they can win enough games in their head-to-heads.  But yeah, a lot can happen, as you correctly noted.  I'm just glad the Mets are 7-up in the loss column on the Braves.  A great position to be in with 53 games left on their schedule.  And the Mets basically managed to turn the clock back with this big series win...the last time the Braves were 6.5 games behind the Mets in standings was June 18.  Mets basically undid several weeks of hard work by the Braves in the course of four days.

Bit worried about this one...3-1 Mets in the 5th but Bassitt seems shaky and the Reds have gotten some good AB's the past few innings. Hopefully the offense can step it up a bit as the Reds are kind of plucky

Mets, Braves, Philly. This should be a fun watch tbh. Believe all 3 are gonna make the playoffs ultimately. Braves are faltering, Mets are steady, Phillies are getting better and better. They have somehow, done all of this without the MVP in Harper. Can't control schedules, just win. But then both the Mets and Phillies are prone to late season collapses. I don't get that feeling from either club but who knows. It'll be interesting to watch though it's been fun

Yeah Bassitt started strong but seems to be fighting it now…has been able to get key pitches at key times.  Pitch count is actually pretty low, considering how the last few innings have gone for him.

And he gets out of another jam.  Based on his pitch count, he may get the 7th.

Naquin with a nice knock, Mets able to tack on.

Hell of a job by Bassitt…gave his team 8 hard-earned innings.  Kept finding way to escape jams.

He got all the way through eight...holy heck.

And yeah the Reds aren't an easy team, our three-game series last month where we were fortunate to get out of there with two was proof of that...but this team just won't allow itself to let down after big series either.

Yeah wasn’t as easy as the 5-1 final score would suggest.  But now 7 games up, with the same amount of games played as the Braves (110).

Remember when the Braves won 14 in a row to start June?  Mets have more or less negated that by winning 13 of 15.

Mets now 63-37, and just went 7-3 over this last group of 10.  7-3 or 6-4 for 9 out of 10 groups…they went 5-5 in the other.

The big series against the Braves is right around the corner.  Hope that team is starting to get a little frustrated with not being able to pull ahead yet.

So Mets go 8-2 over this latest batch of 10 games (best so far).  110 games into their season and they STILL have yet to go under .500 for any of these groups of 10.  The consistency remains mind-blowing.
