2022 New York Mets season thread

Vogelbach has had some good moments and based on how he’s used he’ll have some more, but he’s Duda 2.0.  Good pitchers can handle him pretty easily, often by whiffing him.

And McNeil comes up small in another big late and close moment.

Oh well, hopefully they can at least split the next 6, then start beating up on the easier teams.

Yeah the Braves pretty much mitigated our 4-1 at Citi last week with a 1-3 here...on the plus side 5-4 overall is still a net positive considering we're still the frontrunners.

Yeah 5-4 isn’t bad when one considers the Braves pretty much have been beating everyone since the start of June.

Braves win last night, because why wouldn’t they?  51-20 since starting 23-27.  Makes you wonder how the hell they ever could’ve started 23-27.  And if they’ll ever truly cool off.

Mets finish this latest group of 10 with a 6-4 record.  So for what is now 12 groups, the Mets have gone 6-4 or better in 11 of them…5-5 in the other.  And it’s looking more and more like that will have to continue if the Mets want to take the NL East, though hopefully the Braves’ more difficult schedule slows them down EVENTUALLY.

Glad Pete went yard (and now has 102 RBI)…offense just feels different when he’s hot.  Obviously big DH today…Diaz might have to save both ends.

LGMFM!!!

I only half kiddingly think they assumed they could get off to another lazy start to the season and the division would still be there for them like last year, but when it got to double digits as early as it did maybe that woke them up that this wasn’t automatically the same old Mets lol

And the Yankees are about to go 12-25 over their last 37 games…and 3-14 over their last 17.  After starting 61-23.  They still have a lot of time to try to right their ship, but god-DAMN that kind of fall-off is just so beyond insane.  They can’t beat anyone right now.

Finally…a mop-up guy who actually mops up…even got five outs (technically) in one inning to do it.

Now 5-4 in this tough stretch…good job to shake off losing 3 out of 4 to the Braves.

And nice job making Zack look like the Zack who was prone to laboring as a Mets.  He looked like he had good stuff today.

If Peterson gets through 5 IP and gives up 4 ER or so…so be it.  Can only ask so much of the Plan B guys.  Mets won a game where Williams was opposing Wheeler.  Kinda feels like Game 2 today is with a little bit of house money.

With help from Nogosec, Peterson kept the Mets in the game.  All you can ask.

Doesn’t mean that it would’ve been nice if the Mets’ bats had shown up in the second game tonight, but it happens.  Sometimes random guys just shut you down.  Maybe the Mets break out against the bullpen in this one.

Jeez McCan’t if the hits are going to be few and far between, can you at least catch the damned ball?  fvcking useless.

One more time:  thanks again Sandy.

And unfortunately we just saw the big hole in Baty’s game:  he’s a bad defender.  Guess we’ll see if he can become decent, or hit so much that he can offset his fielding deficiencies.

Nice play Jeff!  Mets still in this one!

Lmao yeah the Mets’ big pitching deadline acquisition was going to hold the fort.  Oh well, not like they didn’t have plenty of time to come back.  Game 2 today just isn’t their game.

Unfortunately the Braves aren't really allowing us to just play par for the course right now...hopefully the Mets'll have their own massive hot streak starting with these next few games and go from there.

The Mets are 20-7 over their last 27.  I can’t ask them to do much better than that.  Like I’ve pointed out, the degree of difficulty definitely changes after the next three games for the Mets…there’s a ton of sh!t teams coming up on their schedule.  It’s not like they’ve been ice cold and allowed a team chasing them to get back in it.

Total surprise, another team in Houston that apparently can’t wait to lose to the Braves.  Mets are just gonna have to beat up on the patsies coming up.  They can’t count on ANY help.

TBH I'm surprised the last 27 stat was still that good after 'slumping' to a 3-4 week so far.  Yeah 17-3 before that would definitely qualify as a massive hot streak, it's definitely frustrating on both ends of that - on our part how can we not shake this team, on their part how can we not break through?

Segura might want to calm down a bit though...game ain't won yet son.

And...CANHA GOES BOOM!

Just hope things actually go to form in the bottom of the 9th, this game feels like it could have more nuttiness in it

One of those absolutely crazy CBP kind of days…but hell of a job by the Mets to pull it out…you see Butto having a debut to forget and you’re thinking “Ok, not going to happen today, just hope that the Braves lose.” Well, they did…and like you pointed out, as much as the Mets can’t bury them, the Braves can’t get past the Mets.  The Mets playing .750 ball over their last 28 games will do that.  Amazing that they’ve held the Braves off.

Soooooo with 39 games left...feels like if the Mets can win 25 of them, the Braves can't possibly pull ahead of them; they'd need to go 30-9 to do that.

Now, 25-14 down the stretch isn't exactly cruise control...but given the schedule (I've detailed it previously...LOTS of crappy opponents in there) and how the Mets have played to date, 25-14 is extremely doable. Just 11 of those games are against teams with .500 or better records (2 against the Yankees, 3 against the Dodgers, 3 against the Brewers, and 3 against the Braves).

Not saying that the Mets have already sewn this thing up; they haven't, and they to keep plugging along they way that they have all season...just keep winning at least 6 out of 10.  But they're in very good shape, with Atlanta being the team that has a LOT of work to do.

And credit to the Mets...sure, there's been the occasional tense moment (mostly due to the Braves playing light's out ball for almost a half season...52-21 now in their last 73 games), but they've pretty much passed every regular season test put to them, really...the Mets have gone 45-27 while the Braves were tearing it up.  That pace is good for 101 wins.  It's not like the Mets have really slowed up or shown the slightest sign of collapse...the Braves have had to basically be unconscious just to hang in as much as they have.

Not sure if German has been that good, or if the Mets are a little spent from yesterday’s craziness.  Only down by a pair for the moment at least.

6-6 for this tougher stretch.  Hopefully they can wrap it up with a winning record tomorrow.

He’s been a mixed bag at best and also hasn’t pitched much in general lately but sometimes these big games can be an odd get well though, still remember Al Leiter turning around a dreadful season with a dominant performance at Yankee Stadium in ‘99 I think. Delgado did the same several years later, when he was hitting like .220 then went nuts with a multi-HR and like 7 RBI game.
