Yeah seems like the Mets are stacking up on quantity right now, more than anything else.  We'll get the "Well deGrom and May are like deadline acquisitions, and we didn't have to give up anything for them!" line.

Get Contreras, and I'll say this deadline was a success...that's a position that clearly needs upgrading.  Robertson would've been a solid grab.

Seems like the Cubs are holding firm on wanting some major piece back for him, to trump the qualifying offer pick they'd get back.  They're probably overplaying their hand a bit.  Almost seemed like they dealt Robertson to Philly for a low-rated prospect out of spite lol

Padres also trade their #6 prospect (remaining) for Brandon Drury and have now acquired Soto, Bell, Drury and Hader in the last day plus...holy hell.  If the Yankees were once the best team money could buy the Padres have become the best team prospects can buy.

Familia DFA'ed after Phillies' trade for Robertson.

Don't do it Billy...just don't do it.

If that happens than I know Sandy’s somehow involved.  That’s as “Troll The Fans” as it gets.

If that's all there is...talk about doing the bare minimum - a few bench/platoon bats and one seventh-inning guy while almost everyone else around us made big fvcking moves

And now they Braves just confirm they traded for Raisel Iglesias...great.

Yeah almost feels like Sandy stepped in…feels like not much effort was made, and no creativity at all.  Much more discount aisle shopping than I was expecting.

That being said, getting deGrom back is pretty huge.  And it’s not like this team hasn’t won a lot as is.  But yeah would’ve like to have seen more.  Or least a bigger name.

Looks like the Cubs may have overplayed their hand with Contreras. A number of other names didn’t move either.

Not sure what the Yankees were thinking with Montgomery.  They must have been very down on him.

It almost seemed like the Yankees thought they were gonna get Pablo Lopez and that fell through at the last second too late to back out of the Montgomery deal.  Otherwise it's curious they gave up on Montgomery after two pretty solid seasons for Bader, who never quite lived up to his balleyhooed prospect status

Yeah Has that’s what I assumed…OK, they’re getting Lopez.  Curious to see if they thought they were getting him, then hit some snags.

Nope, couldn’t go out and get a little more BP help, could ya Billy?  Guess it’s May and Givens and hope for the best.

And we sure didn't need an upgrade at catcher, when you have to sacrifice bunt with just nine outs remaining down three runs because Nido's a salami bat.

On that one, it really looks like the Cubs priced themselves out of getting a return for Contreras.  Maybe they extend him now.

But yeah, having to roll with Nido, McCan’t (thanks again Sandy), and that other guy…somehow the Mets have managed to overcome that to date.  But man those are some bad bats.

This whole day kind of reminds me of the Devils' 2003 deadline where we all hoped they would get a big piece (a Selanne type) and they just filled in the margins with role players like Grant Marshall and Pascal Rheaume, we were upset then and more upset when they blew a bad game at home against Atlanta that night.  Hopefully this season has the same ending as that one :P

Yeah I think if ya wanna get on the Mets about anything, I absolutely think Billy could’ve done more to shore up the ‘pen.  If the Cubs wanted to get stupid with their demands re:  Contreras, that’s on them.  No one else bit on him either.

Not going to get on the Mets for losing after they just won 7 in a row.  Even the dreadful teams win here and there.

RIP Vin Scully...one of the few people in any walk of sports (or life really at this point) that seems universally beloved, and all the more remarkable given he was the king of broadcasting.  Being a Met thread I'm obligated to post this clip:

But really he had too many classic calls to count, the Koufax perfect game, Henry Aaron's #715, and the Gibson walk-off in the World Series among thousands of others.

Mets entering the series with the Braves mostly likely having won 8 out of 9.  Can’t go into that series much hotter than that.  Nice that the Braves already lost today too.

Vogelbach with a granny today…maybe he can indeed be solid as a platoon guy.  Minuscule sample, but he’s been hitting since joining the team.  Gotta do it against the Braves too.

Kudos to both Bassitt and Carrasco.  They really pitched well enough in recent weeks not to make the Mets have to think about shopping for another starting pitcher…when they were slumping, I was definitely thinking that they may indeed have to go that route.

Mets needed a laugher like this, with the big Braves series coming up

It’s good to get a guy like May in a game too.  We obviously don’t have much faith in him, but Eppler & Co view him almost as another deadline acquisition.  So might as well see what he’s got.

I was 16 years old…that sh!t was just crazy.  I can’t imagine what it felt like to be a Red Sox fan that night.

Well if Givens was due for a sh!tty game, better it be in this one.  But yeah if Eppler’s discount aisle rack approach hurts the Mets when there were clearly several good options available…fans are gonna be PISSED.
