"With the second overall pick, the Devils pick some Russian dude that only @Guadana has ever heard of, and that everyone has ranked as a late 2nd rounder".

No, thanks, I like some russian dudes, but it`s way much even for me. Even my pet bear can`t agree with it.

Dreger is just weirdly assuming that there will be no way the Senators re-sign this young stud they just paid for and will simply let him leave after next season, which is... not... how anything works.

Well they paid big to get Duchene and couldn't re-sign him either, had to trade him. Again, ottawa is not a cap team, they can't spend to the ceiling.

I don't want to be right.  I want Fitz to be fired.

Honestly. please. Can you at least wait til the end of the draft to be so fvcking negative?

This is a big day for the franchise and we're all excited here, it's been a long painful season and this is the ONE day we can try to enjoy. it's gonna be a busy day on this forum. And reading all your negative sh!t every 4 posts is just painful for everyone, while you don't even know how the day will go.

I'll ask again, can you please at least wait til the end of the draft before you do your whole typical doom and gloom sh!t? Come on.

Kinda sucks that draft day is now this team's "big day"

2nd overall pick is worth more than Debrincat. Mortgaging the entire draft + having to pay Debrincat a ton of money on top of that is a terrible value. This team is not in win now mode. It is not 1 player away. Drafting a player 2nd + handing Gadreau a blank check would be far better than trading for Debrincat.

I will be so happy to see DeBrincat scoring 50 goals in 25-26 season while Gaudreau starts to break down at $10M per and Slafkovsky is still "figuring it out."

So you'll be happy to see the team you support failing?

It is but look at literally every team winning cups recently, they all went through the same thing. None of them hit rock bottom like we did though, so its gonna take longer

I think maaaaaaybe there was some sarcasm in his statement.

Here I was thinking we wouldn’t get any meltdowns until the pick was made or traded…

We've had one short playoff run in 10 years. That's pretty flicking rock bottom compared to where those teams were.

We have had two GMs since ce Lou and both had the talent of broken clocks. One only wanted to bring on anyone who had aomething to do with the Penguins and the other is too scared to take any risks and is more concerned about watching his son play hockey

None got as bad as that 2015 roster and prospect pool we had. none.

Not true. I am sure there was at least one ECHL team with an equivalent roster. 🙂

Trading 2nd overall for Debrincat has huge salary cap ramifications. It appears none of the people screaming at the sky get it. This isn't the player for pick straight up swap they are making it out to be. Giving up premium assets & years of cheap control + having to pay a ton of money to Debrincat on top of that is not a smart move for this team. If we had the 7th pick like Ottawa that would change things. There is a drop off after the first 4 picks in this draft. Teams in the top 4 are very happy to make their pick in this draft.

My research tells me DeBrincat only has  one more RFA year left, meaning he is UFA in 2024. Maybe 2OA was to much to give up if they didn’t feel they’d be able to re-sign him long term.

Fitz did say many many times that a crucial part of their long term plan is to acquire players with terms. And acquire player that brings something different.

I love debrincat and i'd do Holtz (same kind of player) + Zacha + 2nd.. Foote... wtv for him. But not a 2nd overall pick that we'll control for 5+ years

but, but, but, nevermind, you're right. It is what it is. Someday. Maybe.

For now we're still in the playoff hunt for the upcoming season. Progress.

Given our record over the last decade we probably miss the playoffs both years and he gets traded at the deadline or walks when he's a UFA anyway so yeah I'm fine with not giving anything up if he wouldn't sign long term immediately.
