I know, but I’m a d!ck and I had to point it out in that manner.

But that said, your example is still a guy that literally wanted to play in Ohio rather than be a Devil.

It sure would be great if folks would stop slandering my home state.

Where is there any slander in what I said? @MB3said it showed that we could attract free agents, and I pointed out that he chose Ohio over being a Devil. That’s factual.

Only thing I know about Ohio is it’s West of Pennsylvania, Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Football Hall of Fame. And this.

On this note...my brother spent his college years in Ohio Wesleyan.  I went out there to visit him three times.  I haven't been to Cincinnati or Cleveland or many of the smaller towns, but nothing about Ohio screamed "Oh man, what an awful place, who the hell would want to live HERE?!"  I also went to an Ohio State football game, saw a good bit of Columbus and again...nothing about the area that put me off.

NJ gets ripped on all the time by outsiders that I've met, who've never been here and know nothing about it...they basically think the entire state is like the worst parts of Newark, Union City, and Jersey City, and that it's all pollution and toxic waste.  And also that we all should have some heavy "Jersey accent".  Of course if they knew more, they'd not only realize that there's a hell of a lot of variety here (in terms of terrain and things to do), but that there's no real one "Jersey accent".  Depending on where you're from within the state, the accents vary wildly.

I guess I misread your tone.

I don’t really care if people knock Cleveland, but Cincinnati and Columbus are actually really nice.

I forgot Skyline Chili, which I’ve never eaten but have seen on TV and definitely want to try.

And yes, you misread my tone. My point was, a guy that didn’t sign here but instead chose Columbus because they called and when they did, immediately changed his mind about the Devils, is not a great example of how guys want to sign here.

Yeah Gaudreau literally didn't say a single bad thing about NJ. And it doesn't sound like money was a driving factor either. He just really liked Colombus and what it had to offer. Said he heard many good things about the fans, the location, the arena, people staying there even after retiring, etc etc

He was actually surprised how people were shocked about him picking Colombus. Said he did his homeworks and just loved the place and its potential

Let's just look at it that Colombus was in a position cap wise to even make a pitch. Just like we were with Hamilton and him. And who knows what other opportunity may come

So many of the comments here make me wonder if anyone took the time to listen to the interview that they have such strong opinions about.

Within the context of several talking heads saying the Devils were not considered and several people on here saying the Johnny just "played" the Devils and never considered us, hearing that he was pretty close to inking the deal, saying one of the main things that it came down to was that he felt like New Jersey might be TOO close to home and he wanted to go to a place that was closer for family to see him play but far enough away that he and his wife and their soon-to-be kid could start a family "on their own" in a new place... all of that comes off in a way different tone than "Devils offered Gaudreau but he obviously didn't want to play there".

Kind of irrelevant to my point. He had a choice between the two and he chose the other option. That's not a good example of people wanting to come here.

Actually, its even worse, as they weren't even in the mix and as soon as they were, he picked them over us. All of the other stuff is details that explain why he didn't pick us. Although, I am sure if the Flyers were available, that wouldn't have been "too close" to his family, they just didn't have the cap room.

So basically what you have is Johnny saying "fvck New Jersey" in a very diplomatic way.

he didn't. But he also didn't pick NJ. That's not a good example of how we attract free agents, a guy that signed somewhere else? Am I the only one who thinks this??

He should have just taken 19. I would hope someone does at some point. Love Zajac, but he’s not jersey retired material.

Right, I think its stupid to hold it aside if its not retired (unless you plan to retire it soon).

4 years ago the Devils were linked every year to every single top free agent and never got within sniffing distance. Shattenkirk! JVT! Tavares?!? Panarin!!!! Woooo, go Devils! And then.... womp womp.

In the two years since they signed 2021's top free agent, were a finalist for 2022's top free agent, and signed 2022's 3rd biggest free agent.

Obviously our cap space has put us in the running the last couple years, but at least big name guys are signing/heavily considering signing. Whatever the reason is.

Well that's a bit too black and white in my opinion.

There's soooooo much context to take into consideration.

He was going to sign with us up until like 4pm. He had another opportunity and took it.

If Mila Kunis is suddenly single... and Ryan Goslin ask her on a date and she says she's considering it. Then Chris Hemsworth comes in and ask her on a date too. And that wtv Chris suggested for the date... she's more into that idea and sees a future with him for wtv reasons.... It absolutely doesn't mean that Ryan Goslin can't get a date or anything. She just prefered Hemsworth.

But its the manner in which they lost out on the finalist. They had a deal almost done and another team that the player considered a better option swooped in.

also, not for nothing, but in the context of evaluating a guy's comments how on earth is "I haven't listened to the interview to form these opinions" irrelevant to your point!?

The comments that you laid out in your post were irrelevant because it just explains why he didn't want to come here. he still didn't want to come here, which was my point. His reasons were irrelevant to my point.

But Gosling still stood there with his d!ck in his hand.

Are you confusing the phrase "a desirable location" for "the single most desirable location"? It feels like you're being aggressively pedantic without choosing to listen to the interview.

No, in fact most of this board was confusing that the entire time, when they said it was bullsh!t that he wanted to be closer to home, when Columbus is in fact closer to home.

I don't need to listen to the interview, unless you misrepresented its contents I am comfortable accepting your account.

Just now, MB3 said:

for the record if we want to continue this pun, Gosling with his d!ck in his hand doesn't make him any less desirable. In fact..

Not to you, stud.

I mean yeah. We were finalists to land Gaudreau. He even named us as a team he wanted to play for.

Yet Palat signed with us... after 3 cup finals appearances and 2 cups... while there's other team who could have signed him too.

Yet some still focused on that we're not attractive because we were only top 2 for the top top top UFA in the last few years. its weird.

I mean... we KNOW we're not a top top destination for UFA. We've never been. And now that we're slowly starting to get some traction, like light years ahead of where we were years ago... fans are upset that were not MORE attractive and THE top destination or something? I just don't understand

So basically Palat is the slightly less hot porn star that is way more experienced, and performs better where it really counts?

He’s a better example of a free agent wanting to come to New Jersey, because he came to New Jersey.

Just now, MB3 said:

did you just call Mila Kunis a fvcking porn star?!?! how DARE you?!

Seriously, that was uncalled for and hurtful.

The only point was, failing to sign a free agent is not a good example of how we are attractive to free agents.

Biz is a tool.

Whit I think has the same gripes as we do: for the niceness that was The Rock back when it opened, I feel like it’s just… stuck… in 2007, at best… hell how often do we as fans lose our sh!t about all the things broken there

I don’t understand how the owners have let that sh!t go on. It would be a drop in the bucket for them to make those repairs.

I would put it in the category of being pretty awful at this point. Between the lack of good concessions, broken bathrooms, and a literal leak in the ceiling that makes them have to move people from their season-ticket seats to elsewhere in the arena, I don’t see how you can see the Rock has a nice arena at this point.

No, Mila Kunis is the really hot mainstream actress that’s flashy, but maybe not the best performer in the postseason bedroom.

Palat is the porn star in this analogy lol.
