If they don’t want to trade him, than Peterka, but Fitz should be proactive to trade for Tuch. Necas from Carolina is a real target for trade. Mobile big defensive forward with offensive upside. They have players to replace him and have some troubles with agreement. I would love Tuch. I think he was the biggest part coming back in the Eichel trade besides that 1st rounder that I think turned into Ostland, who looks like might be a stud. Maybe we circle back with Buffalo around the deadline and float the idea of Seves for Tuch straight up. Alex Tuch is a 26 year old top-6 right wing with 4 years left on a reasonable contract. Why would a rebuilding team like buffalo trade him for a rental defenseman? He's also like the biggest Sabres fan in the world. He escorted Rick Jeanneret to the ice when he retired and I think I remember hearing that he bought like 2 sections worth of tickets for friends and family during his first game in Buffalo when he played for Vegas. Not that being a fan is a NTC or anything, but on top of what MB3 said, the guy just bleeds Buffalo.

We can’t start out the way we did last year and expect success. I think we had the lowest goals for through the first 35 games, and it was well below what the bottom team had at the end of the year. I don’t know what the goalies will do. If they are weak, we need the offense to be stronger to offset it. We need our second half offense from the start. If the goalies are like last year, it won’t make a difference.

Whatever defensive system they use could be huge. A system (and players) that can regularly get the puck out of dangerous areas and transition to offense means less pressure on the goaltending and theoretically more time on offense. It’s going to come down to personnel as well which I think is improved. The right side looks great, left is Seigs, Graves and Brendan Smith and I doing know how he compares to Ty. Of course a major issue will be depth. A few injuries on defense and it gets ugly

Do that and it doesn’t matter who is in goal, your opponent is going to convert a lot of those chances.

I was most nervous the Devils would go into the year with Blackwood/Bernier, and it doesn’t seem like that’s the case. If you believe it wasn’t any injury and Blackwood went from “fringe top-10 goalie in the NHL” to “possibly the worst goalie in franchise history” over the course of one offseason, we’re probably fvcked. But i choose not to be that pessimist. Well said.

The reason I want to see Blackwood post-injury is this: Combination of the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons: 70 games, 64 starts. 31-24-8 record with a 2.72gaa and a .916 save % Those are great numbers for a rookie/sophomore season on a terrible team. I don’t think it just disappeared.

We still need a winger who can finish with consistency. Sharangovich hasn’t proven to be that guy yet. Holtz could step into that role but asking a rookie to lead the team in goals is a lot. Bratt is more a passer than a shooter. So, which winger is taking up this role? We missed a ton of grade A chances last year (Sharangovich being a prime offender)…can’t keep wasting Jack’s playmaking. The other question I still have, and it’s a legitimate one, is who is our third goalie for when Blackwood gets hurts and Vanecek decides to retire and try his hand on Broadway a week before preseason? Bernier ain’t healthy. So is it back to square one with Daws? Edited July 18, 2022 by devlman

nessus
This is a great trade. I don’t want to take anything away from that, but I have to say I am bummed that we never got to see Ty realize his potential. I remember being so excited when he fell in that draft for us to take him. He probably doesn’t have much of a role on this team with Hughes, Nemec, and Hamilton being here long term. But he really was quite a prospect, and I always felt that he would figure it out in time. He definitely had the IQ both offensively and defensively to be a strong defenseman. I don’t know what happened in his sophomore season that turned him into a different player. The skating and decision making both took massive steps back. I’ll continue to keep an eye on him in Pittsburgh. He could find his game there, and getting such a great return for him will make that sting a little less. But I could realistically see all 3 of Bratt, Jack, and Sharongovich having 30+ goals. I’m not even saying they shouldn’t be looking to add another winger btw. Just that Sharongovich has proved he can finish at a nice rate.

I actually just saw something yesterday about how Gillies and Daws were supposedly the 2 worst goalies in the league at giving up long goals. Which are obviously just total back breakers. A healthy Mac and Vanecek can at least be better than that. Edited July 18, 2022 by Nicomo

Cause i mean... if you score 30 goals in a season... it means that you're on a pace to score every 2-3 games, that's what you bring to the team every season... some games you'll score 2... you'll score a few games in a row too... but it means that overall you'll have a few games without a goal, obviously. Then the argument is that well he scored 20 in the first half of the season and only 10 in the second half its not good... which i also get what they are saying. But if he went on a long cold streak... and still ended up with 30 goals... it means he was a very very hot streak at some point too. And those goals may means a few extra wins for the team. There's also other players who should contribute
