I have been following the extensive Blackwood injury updates, and have been able to determine from them the extent of his injury.

Mackenzie Blackwood no longer exists.

When I looked at his game season before, I didn't see anything too. He no longer existed long time before, we just believed in him.

Have you seen the latest M. Night Shamalonga-ding-dong movie?  It's called OLD.  There's a woman who has a weak bone condition...the way she meets her demise (it's disturbing) is how I picture Bernier when he suffered this setback.

If anything, Schmid gets a legit shot here to stake a claim on the backup slot.  Bernier is obviously done now.  Mac will be back when he's back.

I am wondering why its Schmid. Last season's result was not good, and it appeared that they favored Daws for that role given how long he was up for. I wonder what changed.

Maybe because he's outplayed Daws so far (obviously not sure how much that's worth, given the puny samples)?  That's all I got.

Yeah based on last year you'd almost assume Daws would be the first choice...so upon further thought, maybe the idea is for Daws to stay fresh by giving him lots of starts in Utica, and then when it's time for someone not named Vanecek to get a start, Schmid will be swapped out for Daws.  Schmid could be a "warm body" for-the-moment backup who's only going to see minutes in a disaster scenario (Devils getting blown out or Vanecek leaving a game with injury).

My guess was so Daws can continue getting playing time but hey maybe Schmid gets a start or two and makes a case for himself. I think he and Daws should both get a chance in the post-Nas Devils net

Suffice it to say that winning forever covers up some ills…after a terrific start, the Devils are suddenly getting lit up on the their PK…they’ve given up 8 goals in their last 21 opportunities (6 games).

Power play has been meh-ish in that same timeframe…5 for 25, but with a shorty against, and I don’t think the power plays in general have really wowed consistently yet this season.

BUT, of course, lots of wins, and the Devils have outscored opponents 24-15 over these 6 games…great in that it shows that even when some aspects aren’t clicking (right now it’s the special teams), there’s enough talent on the Devils that they’re not overly reliant on any particular thing to give themselves a shot to win a game.  There’s been no chirping about the PK’s sudden struggles…goes to show how well that the Devils have minimized that having become a problem.  Hopefully the special teams can get it going, even as the wins keep piling up.
