That’s awesome

Here's a little bit more if you follow up on the hashtag. Lol

Wow. That's so great. Great job by the fans. We don't get to see stuff like this that often. I'm sure Jesper is on top of the world a little bit when he comes out there to thank the fans. Way to make the guy feel like gold right now.

EIGHT MORE YEARS! EIGHT MORE YEARS!

i’m out of the loop…. who is that group of fans?

It’s a dude from twitter named The Bratt Pack. He’s got a pretty sizable following. Pretty funny account. He tweets a lot of off the wall stuff, and his big thing is the “Jesper Bratt is the best player in the NHL” (JBITBPITNHL) he’s been championing for the last couple years.

I think he just organized an outing to that game last night with a bunch of his followers.

He did, they had a group allocation sell out almost instantly, so the devils opened up more seats, and it sold out just as quickly.

the account owner is out of their mind, but it’s parody and fun

I guess the Devils liked how it went because I’m pretty sure he tweeted that they’ll be doing it again in a few months

Luke, Nemec, Mukhamadullin, Bahl, Okhotiuk, Casey, Vilen, Leddy(start to play first pair role in college in his rockie season), Orlov(start to play KHL minutes in his D+1 season) in the prospect pool. Great to have GM who understand how to build defense.

Ron Hextall is scratching his head and wondering what happened to his defense and it turns out he traded it for a 3rd round pick and Ty Smith.

To be fair, Ty had the same number of points as Marino in three fewer games.

(What? He plays in WHAT league?)

Never mind. 😉

Man I know that it's early but that deal looks SO bad...the Pens had a solid young defenseman in Marino entering his prime years (BTW Marino and Siegs are almost the exact same age...their B-days are just 15 days apart) who was also locked up at an extremely reasonable AAV...I could understand it better if, say, Marino was an RFA-to-be and they were concerned about doling out a big raise.  I get that he was a salary dump due to cap issues, but still, that's the kind of player that I'd fight a little harder to keep.

It's become imperative that Smith figure things out, but he just doesn't seem like the kind of player who's ever going to bring that steady "can do anything you need him to" presence the way that Marino does.  If anything, I can see Smith's top end being Seves-level...some very good moments, occasional offensive runs, tons of mind-numbing mistakes, and ultimately too much risk with not enough reward.

Another way to put it; would you trade Seves and a third straight-up for Marino?  I would've absolutely done that in the offseason.  So the Pens basically got a guy who at his very best MIGHT turn to be about what Seves is.

What's sad is that a guy like Ty (with this current staff) probably could've benefitted from sticking around, but glad that instead of having him be here and us looking for any silver linings that we can find, we're instead enjoying a guy who simply takes the ice and does his job.  Great deal for Fitz.

It is a bad idea bacause pens target is compete before Crosby\Malkin\Letang can walk. Marino was a perfect defenseman in his prime years on reasonable deal and match pretty clear. No they have "something\maybe" in Ty smith with questionable defense.

Didn't they need the cap room in order to accommodate Tanger and Malkin's extensions? Obviously hindsight is 20/20 but Penguins fans were pretty thrilled about this move when it happened.

Yes, they weren’t giving up on Marino, they needed to move him for cap room. They didn’t accidentally trade him for a Tupperware full of turds.

Penguins fans were not happy about that deal.  If Ty can figure it out, they’ll get over it.

And yeah, I mentioned it too, this was about making some cap space, but young solid cost-effective D-men shouldn’t be so easily given up.  Kudos to Fitz for cashing in.

They didn`t. They traded Marino and  traded for Petry(day or two is difference). They prefer Petry and what he brings over Marino. And Rutta when signed him before(day or two is difference).

Further research reveals they needed to trade Marino to clear cap room for Petry. They preferred Petry over Marino, but did not trade Marino for Ty Smith because they preferred Ty Smith. Cap was clearly the motivation.

Its not the cap, its because they prefer Petry and Rutta, Petry costed more. We are talk about original qiestion? -

It`s because they wanted Petry and didn`t want Marino. Its not about cap. Petry is 6+ mil player.

And Of course it`s not because they loved Smith. May be they loved, I don`t know, but his AHL business trip isn`t a sign of that.

Trading Marino saved them almost $2m on their cap. They are presently $1.29m below the cap. They couldn’t afford to keep Marino and get Petry. I’m not sure what you don’t understand.

Since I always think it's fun to hear what other players think about the organization, here's (paraphrasing) what Matt Tkachuk said about the Devils on Spittin Chiclets last week:

When asked "has any team really surprised you so far?" -- "The one team that hasn't really surprised me but has surprised everyone else is the Devils. Most players around the league could see that they're lightning fast and so skilled. They're going to be difficult to beat all season."

Cool stuff.

I didn't understand, yes. So we will assume.

It would be better if he decided to sign up with us. But also thank for the kind words.

I like this line up change. Common sense move here. I’d bet Haula breaks his drought now that there’s less pressure and Sharangovich working with Bratt and Hughes could really gel nicely

I was wondering how long that the Devils were going to try to let Sharangovich and Mercer try to develop some chemistry.  Feel for Mercer some, in that having Boqvist and Haula as his linemates probably won't help him snap out of his offensive funk much, but it's a hell of an opportunity for Yegor, that's for damned sure.  And I'm definitely not against Haula being taken off Jack and Jesper's line.

I was not worried at all about Haula prior to last game - I think he's really in his own head at the moment.  He had a really bad first period and wasn't much better the rest of the game against the Yotes.

Just hope he gets that first one soon, because I love everything else that he brings.  Just needs to get the monkey off his back.

If anything, you wonder if Petry was worth grabbing over just keeping Marino.  Petry is 34 and the Pens signed up for his Age 34/35 - Age 36/37 seasons.  Marino is obviously only 25 and on a lower hit.  I get that Petry can provide more offense, but maybe his best years are already behind him?

I agree. He brings a lot of good. It doesn’t make sense to put the pressure of scoring on him too. He’s really good in that 3rd line role and chipping in on offense from time to time. His pass to Boqvist on that goal was nice last game
