If he winds up on another one year deal, I will assume its part of his exit strategy. Agree if he's back on another one-year deal, he's likely gone the following season. Not sure why he'd want to leave what appears to be the beginning of a great competitive run, but everyone has different motivations that only have to make sense to them. But I have see it get to that point first.

Absolutely, and the way we are playing this year, as opposed to the turds we were laying at center ice last year, might be the motivation he needed to be fully in. Who knows? I understood Shero not making one...been over it but that knee injury just buggered up everything. He had 37 points in 33 GP in his third year here...if had played, say, 70 games and put up 75-80 points, I think Shero makes him an actual offer. But then of course, team sucks in his fourth season, he's pretty good but not really overwhelming...and that was that. At least Shero got a very solid return there. He deserves serious kudos there, but Shero (and Fitz) have shown themselves to be good sellers, when they need to be.
MB3
I just called Eric Haula “the worst player in our top-6” on reddit and have 2 people replying to me calling me “not a real fan”, 2 people saying “you must be brand new at watching hockey” and one person sending me a DM giving me information on who to reach out to if I’m going to kill myself. please don’t ever close down njdevs. lol

But yeah sure would be nice if Haula buried, say, ONE of these prime scoring opportunities.

But that’s the kind of depth scoring the devils will need this season. I love what they are doing but with a young team, the vets (Haula, Palat, Hamilton, even Tatar) are gonna be very important. The kids don’t have the experience yet and they are learning how to win on the fly. But wins sure makes those lineup decisions feel unimportant at the moment. What a fun ride so far

What a fun ride so far Obviously way too early to know for sure, but if the Devils are still at the top of the conference near the deadline, would Fitz actually consider a big “All In” kind of deal this early in a competitive window? To help when it comes to the playoffs…say, adding a legit scoring winger. Of course, I get it if Fitz would rather give his existing pieces more time, to see if that kind of a player is already here (Sharangovich or Mercer). And speaking of Mercer…he’s only 21 and I’m not giving up on him even a little, but he looked SO electric when he first joined the Devils…I feel like I barely notice him these days. I find myself wondering where did that version of him go?

Someone looking at his points or advanced numbers May be willing to give something up for a package centered around him As for Mercer.. Could just be a classic sophomore slump? Re: Mercer, even though he had a point surge later last season (along with much of the rest of the team, until Jack got hurt again), it was early on last season where he looked like a legit star in the making. This isn’t as much of a sophomore slump as it more feels like a continuation of Dawson just being kinda there. It’s more like I said, where did the kid who looked like he was going to be a fast-track developer go? This being said, if it takes him some time to put it all together, OK…it wasn’t so long ago that Bratt looked like he was going to shred immediately, and it took him a few seasons before it all truly clicked…what’s great is that the Devils are getting plenty of production without having to ask too much of ALL of the kids. I guess I just want to see signs of that “Wow this kid looks like he can really be a beast!” version of Mercer again.

Part of it could be just a slump, but he's basically been a 3C instead of playing on Hughes right side.

I feel like he’s actually been playing a decent amount at wing. When Haula or Boqvist are on the 3rd line one of them is usually at center. Yeah but everyone can’t be on Jack or Nicos wing. Zetterlund and Tatar are set with Nico for the time being and Jack and Bratt seem to be using a rotating wing of Haula, Sharangovich and Mercer. It’ll be interesting to see what they do when Palat is back.
Devil Dan 56
Oh look Easter Island head says we’re showing signs of doing “something ok”. Then he cried. I love how much this first 6 weeks must be killing the guy who picks the Rags to win it all literally every year.

You've got dinosaurs that don't relate with people at all and atrocious announcers.

Colorado Rockies 1976
18 games into the season. 10 points up on the Rangers and almost twice as many wins. I love the 2022-23 Devils.

If they couldn’t buy their roster through free agency they would be perennial bottom feeders. Edited November 19, 2022 by Nicomo
