I’m still fine with slightly overpaying Bratt. Getting both your two cornerstone pieces on team friendly deals enables you to do that. We need to add to our winger group, not subtract.

Understatement of the year. If we were to lose Bratt, we’d need the best available free agent, who would probably cost more. If you can even get a PPG-ish guy with potential for more to replace him.

It’s a great free agent class. If the Devils trade Bratt and then use the $8.5+ for a guy like Meier or Pasternak instead would anyone be upset?

Would love either of those guys, but there’s no guarantee they’ll sign with the Devils.

And even if one of them did, you’d still only have one true top 6 winger if you let Bratt walk. Ideally you want both Jack and Nico to have a top winger on their respective lines.

I’m also not sure you get Pastrnak for $8.5m, he is having what looks to be a career year. He is going to get paid.

Side note, how the fvck is he only 26? Feels like he has been in the league for 12 years.

The devils should blow their proverbial wad trying to sign Pasternak. Will be a 27-year old 3-time 40 goal scorer (should be 4-time if not for the COVID year. Right handed shot. They should make it known to his agent that whatever anyone else offers, the Devils will beat it by a million bucks a season.

The former

If those were the options, I would agree.  Obviously it’s only academic as you would be counting on two high end free agents to agree to come here.

And I think he might be low on Bertuzzi’s eventual number.

I would agree. But losing Bratt to get him is only a slight improvement. Adding him to a team which also has Bratt is a huge improvement.

losing bratt to get pasternak is not only a slight improvement. it’s a colossal, franchise changing monumental improvement for a guy who will only cost $3ish more per year.

P and B easy. But Boston is not letting Pastrnak go.

Well yeah, there’s also that.

After all the stuff with Blackwood being anti-vax I can’t imagine signing Bertuzzi going over very well with a lot of folks.

This is true as well. Not that anybody cares about Covid anymore.

Former means the 1st option. :P

So Bratt/Meier. And I actually think I agree. Pasta is the best player out of all of them, but I’d rather have Bratt than Bertuzzi. And Meier playing with Nico is something we’ve all been talking about for years.

Yeah, I know what former and latter mean. I was picking the former.

You’re not really making sense. Bratt is already there. The former option only relies on 1 big FA to “come” there - Meier.

And the other two are, which in my opinion makes it academic, because you would have to count on both agreeing to come here.

I guess I could have explained it better, but given that I obviously know Jesper Bratt plays for us, I think the two free agents I was talking about are pretty obvious.
