It's night and day and I love it. I hope some folks that have stayed away decide to come back.

I’ve noticed a few old timers popping their heads in. I hope more do.

Don't look now but we're also the old timers. Closing in on 20yrs on the board.🤣

I still can't get over the 03 cup being 20 years ago. That segment they did the last game on the series vs Boston and so many of the guys they interviewed just look so old. I wasn't expecting to see Langenbrunner look so old. We have seen Marty, Stevens, Kenny, Brylin around the organization for a lot of the time since then so seeing them age isn't the same thing as not seeing Jamie in so long and then boom, he's old lol

I think I was going on 13 in 03. What's really blowing my mind now is that when I got super into hockey and started paying much closer attention, especially the draft and etc, was around that time. The Parise and Zajac drafts were the first ones really watched closely...and saw on TV. Now they're about to be the first draft classes that I watched from draft to retirement. They'll all likely be gone in the next 3 years. Just crazy.

Lots of memorable drafts obviously when your franchise is celebrating its 40th anniversary, but I remember the 1990 draft mostly because of Lou trading DOWN and selecting one Martin Brodeur...it was interesting to me mostly because it made me realize that Sean Burke (who was still living off 1988, but was seeing the Devils running out of patience) was very likely no longer going to be the man in net here...in 1988 it felt like he was going to be every bit the Devils' man in net for at least 10 years.

Then of course, 1991...and the Devils looking like they were going to have a hell of a shot to pick #1OA for a good stretch (Toronto's pick, as everyone knows)...the Leafs making all those "Whatever we do, we gotta find a way to suck LESS!" trades in season, heh heh.

Picking #3OA worked out just fine.

And then of course, the 1984 draft that saw the Devils not get to take Lemieux...all they had to do was lose one more game against the Pens (the Devils went 4-3 against them that year) and they would've had 39 points, and the Penguins 40...oh well.

What a different world it would have been if the Devils landed Mario.

They would have more than 3 Cups.

Vezina level sh!t right here:

Vanecek:

From 10/25 - 12/6  15 GP, 12-1-1, .932 save%

From 12/23 - 2/15  14 GP, 11-1-1, .927 save%

Guy's been money just about all season.

Yeah clearly whoever came up with this last has not seen VV play this season.  Except for his first start and a brief slump, he’s been awesome the rest of the time.

He should’ve been down there this whole time honestly. And now that they’re sending him back, it tells me they want him to go down there and rip sh!t up to up that trade value.

Agree, this is definitely a showcase of sorts.

And yes, it's about fvcking time.

I know a lot of it is on the player but they did him no favors parking him in the press box half the season. I’d rather he play in Utica and review tape or whatever than practice and get 5 mins a game every 3 weeks.

I understood the initial "Let's get this kid at least somewhat able to play at the NHL level" approach, with what I assume was a crash course education during practices, but when it became clear that that approach wasn't paying dividends, the kid should've been back in Utica.  It's nuts that he's only played in 22 games this year.

It’s a shame but I’m assuming he’s part of whatever move Fitz is planning on making before the deadline, assuming one gets worked out.

The funny thing is that we're almost assuming that teams are wildly interested in him...maybe not...or at the very least, we're overestimating his value.

I mean, I know it can take kids some time to develop and it can get ugly at times as they're learning and making adjustments (see Jack's first couple of NHL seasons), but I haven't seen much that Holtz has done that would have anyone screaming "That's kid's gotta a hell of future!  He's gotta be the big piece in any deal that I make with the Devils in trying to build a new core!"  sh!t, Niclas Bergfors was more attractive at the time that he was dealt as part for Kovy...he had a reasonably promising first full NHL season (54 GP, 13 G, 14 A at the time he was traded, though he'd cooled some just before the deal).

Fun fact: Bergfors reversed is Forsberg

I don’t think he’s a blue chip prospect by any means but I think there are teams who see his potential and might feel they can get him to reach it. He’s only 3 years removed from his draft and has shown he can play consistently in the AHL and beat an NHL goalie. I don’t think he’s the centerpiece of any deal but he can be a big piece of a deal for a Meier type

Well technically if Bergfors were properly reversed, it would be Srofgreb...which does look and sound, er, very foreign I guess.
