I think it’s still technically possible.

Its only a 1 point split and both teams have 1 game left.

If the Devils don't win the Metro, they're locked into the Rangers.

The only way for the Devils to win the Metro (and face the WC1 team) is for Florida to beat the Hurricanes.  Which means Florida will finish ahead of the Isles no matter what the Isles do...so MD2020 is right, either the Rangers (Devils finish second in Metro) or the Panthers (Devils win the Metro).

It's been an incredible Regular Season and much attention is placed where it should be on our top stars.

One debatable stat, that seems to matter most over a season, or a career, is +/-.

Tomas Tatar was -22 last season !!

This year he had one of best in Devils History.  Linemates make a difference !!

Plus/Minus
1. Scott Stevens* • 1993-94 53
2. Patrik Eliáš2000-01 45
3. Tomáš Tatar2022-23 41
4. Scott Stevens* • 2000-01               40
5. Dave Andreychuk* • 1996-97  38

Yeah I wanted no part of Tatar coming into this season...I wanted him and Johnsson gone in the worst way.  He's had a hell of a bounceback year.  Serious kudos to him.

Well, Washington has managed just 7 regulation wins in their last 38 games.  So their opponents have managed at least one point against them in 31 out of 38 games.  C'moooooooon boys...of course maybe Carolina beats Florida tomorrow and that's that.

Of course if the Isles manage to lose to the Canadiens tonight (via regulation or OT/SO), then the Panthers clinch the WC1 spot and can't move up or down...so they can bail on that final game against Canes with no consequences...hell, if they lose to the Canes, then that's their first-round matchup:  Canes vs Panthers.

So for them it's literally "Do we try to win, and see if we potentially get the Devils as our first-round opponent?"  Or do they say "OK, the Canes it is, let 'em win, let's just go through the motions and get out of here healthy and save it for them for later!"

Florida is going into the game knowing if they win they have a very good chance of playing the Devils who has no playoff experience and who they probably think they match up with okay.

If they lose, they get Boston that's a big difference, they will do everything they can to win tonight and hope NJ get's at least 1 point.

Carolina plays Florida if they win, or the Rangers if they lose and the Devils get 1 point, I think they are in trouble either way, but personally going against the grain, I think the Rangers might be a better matchup for them.

The Devils have much to gain by winning tonight, going for the biggest improvement in the history of the league is a nice thing to have. Winning your division with a Car loss and having that for a young team, again a real thing to hang your hat on.

I don't know what Wash is playing for, I don't think we see any of the players who have been missing games, maybe they even sit others who have been playing, The Devils are clearly a better team before the injured players for Wash, just go out and outplay a beaten team and let the result of Florida and Carolina be what they are.

The Rangers or Florida whoever they play will have the playoff experience edge, but the Devils are the better team, so lets freaking play and see what happens.

Re:  @Patrick Sundstrom Ghost post, yeah, the Islanders winning was huge...hard to imagine Florida won't be trying like hell to win tonight's game vs the Canes...if there's any way that you can avoid playing the Bruins, you do all that you can to make it happen.

Carolina's season has really gone off the rails, even with the NHL's second-best record...they're just 8-9-1 in their last 18, and they've been shut out four times during that stretch (only 2.39 GPG...their offense has more or less disappeared)...Svechnikov's injury has really hurt them badly.  Even if they still take the Metro, not sure if they have enough in them to make much of a run.  If I'm the team facing them in the first round, I feel like I have a good shot to beat them.

Yeah I'd like to see the Devils take the Metro...regardless of what happens or who they play (Rangers or Panthers), I expect both opponents to be tough and I can see either series going 6+.  I can also see the Devils losing or winning either series, but I also don't see either team and think "Oh man, no way the Devils are getting past those guys!"; I like their chances.  If they meet Boston down the line, yeah, that one will have me feeling like the run will end...but of course I'll be hoping for the upset.  But if the season ended with the Devils having taken down two playoff opponents, at that point I'd consider playing in a ECF series against Boston about as "playing with pure house money" as it gets.  Just glad that the Devils are in...one game at a time.

If Carolina loses outright and we lose in OT and get a point, so we end up with identical records, what's the tie breaker and who wins the division? Is it head to head first, then Conf record second?

The first tie breaker is ROW(Regulation /OT wins) and we have more of those than Carolina even before this game so we would win the tie breaker and the division.

In this case, basically all the Devils have to do is tie the Canes in points and they take the Metro.

Plus-41 for a forward who has 19 goals is excellent. Tatar may not be a finisher, but as we could see, he was very effective at both ends of the ice.

20 goals ;)

Who’s going to the game Monday?  If it is in fact on Monday.  Not sure if I am as of yet.

I'm going to Games 1 and 2.  Not sure how much beyond that.  Very pricey.  Probably one game per round, if they manage to win a couple.

Oscar Actually GIF - Oscar Actually The Office GIFs

The first tie breaker is Regulation Wins (RW), then it goes to Regulation/OT Wins (ROW).  Currently the Devils have 39 RW and Carolina has 38 RW.

I included the Rangers in this screenshot because they suck.

And of course both baseball teams made the playoffs last season...even one of the football locals made it too!
