and there it is. Another team desperately helping the Rangers

More like them trying to get better return and I think they did. Tarasenko has been meh this year. Last year I think he guaranteed a first was included, but not this year. Retaining the salary probably helped to get that first round pick.

They gave up a better defender too for Blais (who was close to if not already scratched) and Skinner (who?). For a first and a third.

St Louis took the L on this one, in my opinion.

This was about not losing Tarasenko for nothing…and he’s been meh this year to boot.  They got a first-rounder at least…and the 4th-rounder becomes a third if the Rangers make the playoffs (hard to imagine that they don’t).  Yeah not a killer return but I don’t know how much better the Blues could’ve done here, all things considered.

And the Rangers do this to improve their already great powerplay? I don’t see what else Tarasenko does for them.

This trade along with the trade islanders already made plus jack being hurt now week to week almost forces Fitz to make a deal fairly soon in my opinion. The rangers are right behind us in the standings and we can’t afford to fall back far without jack.

He can’t panic. That’s how you get fleeced.

The good news is this removes the Rags from the Meiers sweepstakes. It’s down to Carolina and us according to most hockey people. If Meiers says he will sign with us and not Carolina, we just might pull this off. Unless the prices is silly.

Would you trade for Meier now without a contract extension?

Fairly soon. Don’t give up the farm obviously. Just don’t want a promising season the start to circle the drain.

I'm pretty confident help will be on the way. Things are a little more pressing with Hughes hurt, but even with a trade, the rest of the team still needs to step up in his absence. They're still the most important players, not whoever we get at the deadline. Even Meier.

Bolded: absolutely not. Don’t just think for this season, we have to plan for the future. IMO Meier must come with an extension or the foundations of one.

Not to mention I am not sure they can also add Kane either. If I had a choice I'd rather they get over the hill Tarasenko as opposed to Kane or Meier.

Rangers apparently found the asking prices for Meier and Kane too high, hence the pivot to Tarasenko.

Hoping that something happens sooner than later, as far as Fitz making a buyer’s move goes.

If Carolina pivots to Boeser or Kane, the Devils could be in an excellent position. I’m not sure who else is in the market.

Yeah could become one of those situations where the Sharks paint themselves into a corner and wind up having to take less than expected due to one too many potential suitors bowing out.  @Crisis has pointed out that they have too many players under contract to take back a package of even more players under contract to boot.

Damn, I just saw the news about Jack being out for at least a week, well let's go Jesper 2...

Rangers traded for Tarasenko, no surprise with the Islanders already making their move and the Devils looking for a longer term situation he had total control of where he went.

I never would have give a 1st for him, so yeah that plus a mid pick, even with the Blues paying half, I don't like that for NY.

I know everyone wants to make a move now, so do I, but SJ does not have to do anything currently, we should be trying to do it of course, but you can't force someone to make the trade.

The Devils should wait as painful as it is, they have to because Timo is the guy, I see no one else who fits the team in that way.

Now maybe you want to go for Kane and pay for a rental, but I don't see that making sense even if it would be fun to see him and Jack together.

They could try and add the 3rd line help now if SJ is going to keep on waiting to trade Meier, someone like bringing home Adam, that is something that could be interesting.

I think it's obvious the bottom 6 is hurting the team with so few goals, but I still don't want rentals, and I don't know enough of the league currently to know how many guys like Adam are out there.

Oh well, hopefully Jack is not out longer than a week otherwise I guess some centers will have to be in discussion in this post, if they are not already.

Not a chance without extension but other trades could be done. Yes players have to step up starting tonight. Just don’t like the long term effects of this injury to Hughes. Team goes as he goes.

Why do I have a horrible feeling (like I always do) that the Devils are quickly getting fvcked.  Now with Hughes injured and either Carolina or Pitt is going to get Meier.  Then in a panic move Fitz will fvcking sign O’Reilly.  I sure as fvck better be wrong but that’s what I’m fully fvcking expecting since the Devils have barely got lucky in a decade.  Fvck all this $hit, I’m pissed.

Because you choose to view everything through a negative lense. Try being more positive.

But when has being a Devils fan in the past decade+ giving us any reason to be positive?  It just fvcking hasn’t, I’m fvcking bitter at all this $hit.  Just fvcking want one thing to go great for the Devils and it never does.  Fvck this!  Mike Rupp with the game winner and Jeff Friesen with the last great goal the Devils ever scored 20 years ago is fvcking annoying.  Not saying Henrique’s goal wasn’t amazing but the end prize wasn’t achieved that year.  Fvckkkkkk!

Sports are cyclical. The Devils were absolute dogsh!t for a long time before the Cups. It doesn’t happen overnight.

What if for whatever reason SJ decides to hold onto Meier through the season?

I don't think this happens, but I am listening to the Devils Insiders and they just mentioned this, and thought it was at least interesting to put here.

I think it would be a really bad mistake for them to do this, as they are in a total rebuild and even though they have one of the best players currently in the league, I think they would love to trade Karlson even now.

Timo though should be the guy NJ goes for, now, the week of the deadline or in some weird space after the season before or during the draft.
