Woods + 3rd for Nino, that works out for us as well.

Gettin NSH to take wood back in that trade would have cost NJ more than a 3rd and also cuts into the money they prob want to keep for a top 6 winger like Timo(assuming NJ isn't out on that yet).

NJ has 2MM in cap space right now.

If NJ gets Timo, assumption is we will have to do a salary dump like add Haula or Woods as part of the overall package. Additionally, Fitz wants a long term deal before Timo gets here. Honestly, I dont know how soon they can get a deal done. Fitz should move on and start making smaller deals to tweak the team. If and when Grier comes back to deal, he can work things out accordingly.

If it comes down to affording Timo or not, Wood can fall down all over the ice in Utica for the last 6 weeks of the season

Maybe I am wrong but I am pretty sure you can't bury Wood's cap hit like that. The only way to get rid of it would be trade, waivers(which he would have to pass through to get sent to Utica anyway), or LTIR. The only time a guy has a different cap hit in the NHL vs AHL is if he has a two-way deal.

EDIT: Maybe you are right? Trying to figure this out using Capfriendly:

Quote

What is a Buried Contract?

Teams do not receive full cap relief when a player on a one-way NHL contract is reassigned to the American Hockey League, or is loaned to a team in another professional league.
The players salary cap hit, minus the sum of the minimum NHL salary for the respective season and $375,000, still counts towards the team’s salary cap total.
The cap hit relief is therefore equal to the minimum salary of the respective season + $375,000:
  • 2014-15: $550,000 + $375,000 = $925,000
  • 2015-16: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
  • 2016-17: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
  • 2017-18: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
  • 2018-19: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
  • 2019-20: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
  • 2020-21: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
  • 2021-22: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000
  • 2022-23: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000
  • 2023-24: $775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000
  • 2024-25: $775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000
  • 2025-26: $775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000

So by that I guess the Devils could bury Wood by passing him down to the minors getting 3.2M-1.125M=2.075M in cap relief?

I’m sure Fitz can find a RHD on the trade market that can handle 15 minutes. Whoever it is won’t bring offense that Severson does at times and would be at a similar level defensively but that’s why they’d be relatively cheap. But if you want to thing in a Meier and/or a Wilson, you gotta find cap space somewhere

I don’t think both is possible without some help brokering.

We have about 2 million free now, Severson is 4.1, Blackwood 2.5, Tatar is 4.5 I think, Wood is 3.2, Graves 3.1. It’s definitely possible to move a few pieces that won’t be here and free up room. Meier and Wilson are a combined 11 so something will have to give.

Are the Wilson rumors actually for real that was just my own pipe dream.

Just a quick note that I see many folks here are missing when it comes to the Cap.

Johnnson is going to be traded whatever they do as he has a decent hit remaining but he is only going to cost the team he is traded to pennies on the dollar the way his deal was done.

So when everyone is worried about the Devils and making deals, don't forget that little nugget.

According to Sportsnet panel Nashville is 100% open for business. Saros, Josi, and Forsberg are the only playes NOT on the table. He also mentioned what the tweet mentioned about Meier. Video is below if you wanna hear exactly what he says.

Not sure what the cost would be for either one but both Jeannot and Trenin are big bodies that could help in the bottom 6.  Trenin has another year on his deal at 1.7 and Jeannot is an RFA currently earning .8
