This was announced at around 4:30. It’s almost 6, and we still don’t know the return. It’s getting annoying now.

I’ve never seen this before.  It’s bizarre.

So happy this is over so I can stop insessently looking up twitter feeds over and over. Now the new struggle begins.... the impulsive side of me wants to order a Meier jersey right away, the other half of me says wait for the extension....

Kind of funny to see Andreas Johnsson and Joey Anderson traded within a day of each other after being traded for each other. I guess no one won or lost that one

Deal made sense from both sides at the time...Johnsson had that one intriguing (though shooting%-influenced) run in 2018-19 that had Fitz hoping there might be something there, and the Leafs dumped a salary and got a warm body back in return with mild upside.  I'd say mild win for Toronto only because they knew they'd already seen Johnsson's best and needed to get his hit off their books, so mission accomplished for them...what they got back really didn't matter that much, as much as finding a taker for Johnsson's remaining money.  The Devils got stuck with a stiff who had one last shooting%-influenced run of illusionary success in him (last season's first 20 games), but basically as we now know, he either shoots 30% or so, or might as well not exist on the ice.  But it's only a mild loss for the Devils because were clearly in transition at the time and they had the cap room to take a flier on him, and to Fitz's credit, he didn't try to force the issue once he realized Johnsson wasn't any good.  He buried him in Utica and that was largely that.

I like that move for Toronto, I think they are scarier than NY with the moves they made. Props to Dubas for making the moves he has with limited cap space.

McCabe was buried for years on a bad Buffalo team and was sad to see him go to CHI but he'll be good for Toronto, either as a depth guy or come in and really help their top 4.

Yeah but what is the asterisk for after the 1st round pick?   Is it conditional on ECF like ours is to San Jose.

Edit: Top 10 protected.

On one hand, the Leafs have to go all in at some point.   This winless playoff thing with that group of talent is a joke.   On the other hand, they have like 1 legit prospect and only 1 pick in the top two rounds of the next three drafts combined.   This better work for them.

Elliotte Friedman's 32 Thoughts podcast from Sun night had something on NJ being interested in Lars Eller who is in his last year of his contract.

He makes a lot of sense for the team, a bigger guy who plays center & has tons of big game experience, plus I can't imagine he would be that expensive to get.

I saw an interview with Fitz where he mentioned looking for more size as well as moving some money to get that done, so maybe dumping Wood somewhere like Ana and then getting a guy like Eller.

I don't know how serious AH injury is, but getting him for Wood plus might be another thing to think about to strengthen the bottom 6.

Finally I am curious if there is any defenseman out there on a team who has interest in Severson for the long term that TF is looking into. If they could get a good D back, someone who can play on the bottom pairing, and they are interested in signing Sev, that could be an interesting thing.

I don't think the Devils will trade DS for assetts, so it has to be for someone who will not hurt the team this year and could be on the team next year. It would have to be a better version than Smith on some team probably out West if it's true that is where DS wants to go if not here.

Just coming back to this thinking more about it, I think DS could also be traded if they find a D they like elsewhere  get assets back for DS to recoup some of what they use on that D or even for that D.

The next few days will be interesting, at some point a team out west has to be a buyer as it's embarassing how all the big trades have been to the east.

Even after snagging his big trade deadline prize in Timo Meier on Sunday, Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald says he isn’t done making deals.

Adding to this, Fitzgerald told NHL Networkthat he wants to “get a little grittier” and build depth, but that he may need to make moves to “create some cap space” first.

I read that as "Find a way to dump Miles for a pick", as far as opening up cap space goes.  Some might think that could also apply to Seves but I'd be surprised if Fitz moved him...I've mentioned it before but even with decreased offensive numbers this season, he does represent insurance in case Hamilton should ever miss time.  I know L Hughes is supposed to join the Devils after Michigan's season ends but who know in what capacity that will be (and if he's even ready).

I'd hate to lose Severson.  With a roster full of young guys and a team made up of many new players, a guy like Sevs who's been around several years is nice to have. The guy has been a lot less vulnerable in his own end this year, at least from what I've seen.
