I was NOT saying that I’m now sold of him due to this sudden lil’ point surge.  I’m with ya, if there’s a taker for him and Fitz can allocate that cap space for something better, by all means, I’m all in.

Yeah i feel the same about Blackwood. I’m comfortable with Vanecek and Schmid for now. If someone wants Blackwood, by all means take him. He’s Zacha to me. I think there’s something there but he’s not gonna find it here

I have this feeling that the locker room really values Wood so Fitz wouldn't look to offload him unless it made overwhelming sense to do so.

Yeah I agree that he would have to have something else lined up...he wouldn't move him just to have "just in case" space.

Can someone explain what Vancouver is doing?  Sending out 1st Rounders as they are unloading?

Curious

They had an extra first to play with (they dealt the Isles' 2023 first) and decided to bring in a relatively young D who's cost-controlled for a couple of years and has some offensive upside.

They've got some serious cap issues to navigate, though it's not like we don't see teams finagle their way out of cap crunches.

Not sure if this was posted.

Pens get Granlund because... Hextall.

Yeah he is to GMs what Leah Hextall is to NHL game broadcasts.

I take it the devils shouldn’t do this and be better off targeting someone like tom wilson?

He’s only making $3 million this season too.  I’d make that deal, though given where the Devils are, it might be a year too early.

Yeah, upon further thought, too early to do this…Devils are probably better off saving their draft pick loot for later in the window.  Domi’s probably just a rental…there will a time and place to go all in, but this year isn’t it.

I agree they shouldn’t go after Domi, but why not go for it this year because you NEVER KNOW year to year how teams are going to be.

You would like to think that the Devils will be contenders for many years, but, In hockey, you just never know. You

I don’t want a Domi on the Devils.

Trust me I still dream of swinging a baseball bat as hard as possible into the face of Tie.

What it comes down to is are you convinced that 2023 represents this group's very best chance to win a Cup?  I hear what you're saying, sh!t happens, maybe next year the team is struck by injuries and becomes a lost year, maybe negotiations with Meier and Bratt don't go well, etc, but it really doesn't feel like this is going to crash and burn anytime soon...as we know, there's still some serious exciting young talent still waiting to join the team.  I get the value of all-in rentals when the time is right, but the Devils have already used up considerable draft capital to land Meier (I have no issue with this), and I'm not so sure that they should do that again to land a rental at this stage.  If you're telling me it's a 3rd-rounder, OK...but I'd like to hang onto the remaining firsts and seconds for now.

Domi produce a lot of points on PP as a part of the weak roster. He is bad defensive player. Really bad. We should stay away from the guy not because of his salary or his father but because he isn`t the guy this roster needs. If we actually need someone. I like what we have now. May be I prefer Trenin over Wood, but even Wood now looks like a player who can do something as 4th liner. When Bastian is healthy, he compensate Wood problems greatly.

Btw I want to rseign Bastian for 3 more years on a cheap deal. Great bottom player.

I scoured the web for more info and yeah, he's not really as good as his 2022-23 point total suggests, for a number of reasons...and admittedly it was the quick-glance numbers that had me thinking "Hey, could do worse for a second-round pick!"

Bastian is a guy I can see Fitz re-signing because he'll be cheap and he's a familiar face...can't imagine he'll make much more than $1.5 million AAV, if that much.  And those are the kinds of deals that don't hurt you if they don't work out.  It's more the mid-tier guys who can really louse up your cap, if you have too many of them...some of those guys simply don't bring that much more than a ELC or relatively cheap bridge player does.  Basically assuming Bratt and Meier are re-signed for $18 million or so AAV max combined, Fitz will be able to sign one or two of Tatar, Haula, Graves, Seves, and Wood.  I think Graves, Seves, and Wood are gone, simply because those aren't the guys you want to overpay, and Graves' numbers look good enough that he'll get a nice UFA offer.  I'd really love to keep him but it's smarter financially to hope Bahl is on a track to finding his game at a much lower cost.  If I can re-sign Haula and Tatar for $5.5 - $6 million AAV combined, I probably do it.  If some older/less crucial guys want to be a part of this thing, they're going to have to accept that it's the in-their-prime youngins who need to be locked up and paid.

At this point the Coyotes pretty much just exist as a money laundering operation for the rest of the league, right?

They should just change their name to the Arizona Byrds...

He's already been added to Vegas' payroll, so sounds like a done deal.  They have a lot of goalies banged up...guess they're desperate enough to give "Quick and the Dead" a look.

Absolutelty agree with you. Graves produced enough to ask 4.5-5.5 mil for 4-5 years. And with Luke in the prospect pool and Timo Bratter as potential huge sign, Devils have no place to spend a lot of money  and reason on the long term.
I like Haula and Tatar as potential complimentary sign, because we still should have someone to retrive the puck and defend in neutral zone.
After all, we Have Nico, Jack, Bratt and Meier - it`s great team to sign on cheap deals for Specca`s and Perry`s.
We need to save cap space for the next Mercer deal. And we should think about goalies - if VV will be good enough - he will ask for raise, if not - Devils are in the contetnion window, they have no more time to wait and should have competitive goalie`s duo.

I trully think we are done with core pieces, and may be even with complimentary pieces. Our PP is good and I believe Meier should help. Our PK is good. Our 5 on 5 game is good, we have great top-6, I believe Palat-Haula-Sharangovich will have great time against worser defensemen. Even fourth line can create chaos.
How can we replcae Wood this summer? I believe Fitz will figure it out, we should watch closely how players are playing in the end of the season - March is hard and play off should show where we are having weaknesses.

Well that's that on Domi.

It's kind of nuts this year. We got the big fish, but I still feel like we're falling behind the other top teams with all their depth acquisitions.

Is this the most busy trade deadline we've seen in a long time?
