Good, move the team.

Huston seems like the easiest option, which is probably why it won't happen, because it's the NHL .

I firmly believe the bullsh!t in Arizona will never end, so I expect Bettman and whoever is running the Coyotes at this point to try some other scheme to keep the team there against all common sense.

On one hand, yeah, it really feels like NHL hockey just wasn't meant to be there.

On the other, if Atlanta were somehow to land that team, I'm pissed if I'm a 'Yotes fan.  Exactly how many chances does THAT market get?!

Houston makes the sense. No realignment, and it creates an overnight natural rivalry with Dallas.

At first I thought another Texas team was too much but look at all the metro teams and they are thriving. It could work.

Texas is a big state, it's like a 3.5 hour ride between Dallas and Houston. Completely different markets and Houston is one of the top TV markets in the country that doesn't have a team so it's always surprised me that they didn't try to put a team there sooner.

I’m also probably moving from Florida to Texas in about a year for work and Houston will be a very doable drive for me… just saying…

I've never actually seen it mentioned but I always thought being the first team into Austin TX would be a great move for the NHL instead of getting lost in the Houston sports scene.

You could probably argue that the Devils never should have been moved here for a similar reason...glad they came to NJ of course!  But LOTS of teams here already, with three NHL franchises in the immediate area (if you count the Flyers)...one of which was enjoying a historic run of success at the time.

Always thought that the Jets and Giants playing their home games in NEW JERSEY and still being called the New York Jets and New York Giants is kinda weak.  Devils aren't the only team in NJ, really.

The MLS has a team in Austin and they have done incredibly well. Helps they have had a good team but still been packed every game.

Austin would need an arena though, they have one for the ahl team but it's not big enough for an NHL team. Houston Aeros in the AHL already play where the Rockets do so a transition to an NHL team would be a lot quicker for them there compared to other cities. They could have them playing there next season.

Also I went and browsed the HF thread for the Coyotes in the Coyotes section that was leading up to these results and a decent amount of them expected it not to get passed.

Obviously they have been following the situation a lot closer but it was just interesting to see so many of them expecting it to be voted down.

A lot of Latinos in that fanbase (not surprised given the location)…not sure how much interest those fans might have in hockey.

Also some of their fans think the owners wanted to lose this vote, that they barely spent any money on the voting campaign. Just enough to save face and look like they want to win it but not enough to actually win it so that they could then sell the team and move it.

People here love the soccer team. They go nuts for it. They also love the Texas Stars who play up in Cedar Park. Those games are a ton of fun.

Tons of transplants here like me who love hockey but I'm just not sure Austin could support an NHL team. We are right between Dallas (3hrs) and San Antonio (1 hr) though.

This league is an absolute laughingstock and idiotic decisions like this are why you have morons like Stephen A. Smith saying "Hockey doesn't count" when talking sports. This league will NEVER earn the respect that it should because it's run like a fvcking middle school.

This sh!t with the Coyotes has been going on for 14 years. 14 YEARS. Now, after shoe-horning them into a fvcking college arena that holds 4,000 people, this latest proposal gets struck down. The one that was the be-all end-all. The make or break. And, just like after the previous 568 proposals that have gone nowhere, how does the NHL react? ‘Nope. College arena. Path forward in AZ. Hare-brained proposal #569 on the way, once we find some other plot of land to try and exploit.’ And meanwhile, you have Houston sitting there with an arena, a huge market, and an overnight rivalry with Dallas that can help grow the sport in another non-traditional locale. It’s utter clown shoes. No other league would do anything close to this to keep a franchise in the same place. This is all Gary Bettman’s fragile-ass ego that is driving this. That guy can’t take a fvcking L and just admit when he’s wrong (which is often). That is why this sh!t is STILL going on, and will apparently continue.

I get why you and others are sick of the drama in Phoenix but I do appreciate that Bettman absolutely loathes to move teams and does everything in his power to prevent it.   Atlanta was a weird situation because that goofy 8 headed ownership group owned the arena and locked them out.   Aside from that, he’s basically saved all the Canadian teams when their loony was like $.12 on the dollar (sarcasm) and gone out of his way with the Coyotes.

Compare that to the NFL where they have 20x the revenue yet move a team every time they decide they need a new publicly funded stadium.   The fvcking Raiders have moved 3 times in my time watching football.
