Welcome to the NHL lol

Pretty much EVERYTHING I’m reading on the internet about this has everyone in complete WTF?! mode, heh heh.  Avs fans don’t understand the length of the deal at all.

Miles Wood To Sign With Colorado Avalanche

July 1st, 2023 at 1:13pm CST • By Josh Erickson

UFA winger Miles Wood is heading to the Colorado Avalanche on a six-year deal, per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Don't worry, no one else can anymore either lol

Holy sh!t is that bad

I don't think the AAV is that bad but the term is about three years too long imo. Good for him though, I liked most of his play in the regular season, but he didn't seem to adjust to the playoffs very well.

This is about what I was expecting…I had him at 5 or 6 years @ $5 million AAV.  If I had to choose 6 years for him or 6 years for Wood, I’m taking Graves every time.  But I’m plenty happy that the Devils were able to do neither.

Wood’s AAV is $2.5 million.  I’d still want no part of him for six years but the AAV isn’t awful.

I figured he was a 5 million per year guy as well.   When you look at it in the context of Pittsburghs situation, it’s fine.  They might have added a year or two of term to get the 4.5 AAV.   I mean, they’re probably looking at 3 years of trying to make a final push for the playoffs and some amount of success before Crosby, Malkin and Letang are done and they start all over, in which case they won’t care about years 4-6 on the Graves deal.

Yeah by UFA standards I don’t really consider Graves’ deal all that bad.

I don’t know, with very few exceptions, I don’t think you should ever be paying a 4th line guy 2.5 million.  I laughed at the Leafs for the Kampf deal and he’s at least the 4th line center, not a wing.  If you’re going to 6 years, you would think you’d be getting a huge break on AAV.

I mean, once we acquired Lazar, I preferred to see him in the lineup than wood and he costs a million and a half less

I thought the AAV was going to be closer to the $3.2 million he got last year.  I’m not saying he represents killer value or anything…just that his deal is a little less bad (but to be clear if I’m an Avs fan I’m not excited about this signing).

I remember Erika interviewing Miles and he said Colorado is one of his favorite places...

Sorokin 66 mil for 8 years staying on the Island

I know Sorokin is good but man I really think paying big money to goalies is not good business these days.

The Wood and Graves deals are insane - good on Fitz for moving on.

The good thing about Graves is that he’s a guy who can help teams who have very meh D-corps…he’s an above-average defenseman.  Is he a guy you necessarily want if you consider yourself a legit contender for a Cup?  Probably not, but there’s only a handful of teams who can say they’re legit contenders.  For several teams, he represents an upgrade.

Here’s where the Pens fvcked up…if Hextall doesn’t make that awful Marino deal, they don’t have to pony up for Graves.  I’d rather have Marino.
