I am getting frustrated watching Bratt over-pass constantly. Take a damn shot once in a while, man. Not sure how he managed three shots on goal. I vaguely remember one…

Yeah, Ruff is clearly frustrated with him atm as well (hence the 3rd line demotion). Just 6 points in his last 13 GP.

His reluctance to shoot is definitely getting annoying. Jack might also be slumping right now (for him) but at least he’s still getting a ton of shots. He had another 5 tonight.

Bratt was even worse tonight than I thought.

Obviously this is all smaller-sample-within-a-larger-sample stuff, and at the beginning of the season we all wanted Bratt re-signed ASAP when HE was hot...but gotta start to wonder if Fitz himself starts to wonder if he really wants to lock up only two out of Dawson, Bratt, and Timo.  And if he gets tired enough of Bratt's contract negotiations continually being a grind that if it doesn't get resolved soon enough to his liking, that he simply pivots over to Mercer and extends him prior to his ELC expiring (as he did with both Nico and Jack...obviously he can't do this with Dawson until the offseason, at the earliest).  I still think Fitz would prefer to re-sign all three even with the cap implications, but obviously if Dawson keeps this up and winds up closer to Bratt in production by season's end than any of us would've expected (also he's three years younger to boot), and as a result ups his value more quickly that we ever would've thought...suddenly you're looking at THREE pricey extensions.  Maybe a difficult decision will have to be made sooner than we would've thought, but not like that's uncommon...should Fitz have to go that route, hopefully Holtz is ready to start figuring it out with the big club in 2024-25.

I love Bratt. Love him a lot, but he is frustratingly pass first.

He's the one player that I am yelling at the TV to "Shoot the fvcking puck".  I think Zajac was the other player that I remember who had a great shot and always passed the puck first and I would yell at too. Bratter has an excellent shot and opts to pass it behind his back and make the harder play often times.

It's just tendencies, but I'm confident he'll figure it out.

In an ideal world, I would love to see our home grown talent sign long term and stick around for what should be a really excited period of NJD hockey over the next few years but as this season has gone along, I think a lot of the leverage has kind of shifted back to Fitz.  At the beginning of the season it seemed insane that we could ever even entertain letting him leave but I think as you said previously, Bratt has kind of settled into an 70-80 point "undersized" (my word, not yours) winger.   Again, I would like to see him stay but between that, the emergence of Mercer and the acquisition of Meier, I think Fitz can hold out to get Bratt on something closer to his terms.   There's always good wings available through trade or free agency.

Yeah this is definitely NOT me saying "Get Bratt out of here and re-sign Dawson and Timo, end of story!", and I like Bratt, but there's obviously a lot to factor in.  I do think Bratt has reached his ceiling, and it's mostly a good one...70-80 point players who can potentially score 30+ any given season aren't always easy to find.  But there's negatives too...like others have mentioned, he passes up excellent opportunities to shoot a bit too often (he's prone to overthinking sometimes), and can seem almost disengaged at times.

That being said, yeah, I'd love to see Fitz hang on to all three players.  Just think with Dawson's sudden exponential offensive growth, that it could become more complicated.  Especially since Bratt's agent is obviously not much interested in taking anything less than what he perceives to be Bratt's max value.

I told this story a while back, but I went to a game back in the spring of 1989, at the old Cap Centre (what a dump THAT place was...looked like a big Pringle from the outside)...one of the scariest games that I've ever been to, as far as being an opposing fan in the other team's building goes.  For one, the Caps fans remembered Rod Langway being cut by Pat Verbeek's skate in the '88 playoffs (Devils would go on the eliminate the Caps in that second round series of course), and they were still PISSED.  Stevens at one point beat the absolute piss out of Verbeek, with both of them taking 17 minutes' worth of penalties (teams combined for over 170 PIM that day)...as Verbeek left the ice, he was showered with multiple beers.  The Devils trailed early but actually took a 3-2 lead at one point...I stopped cheering after the Devils' third goal, because I was smart enough to realize that my extremely skinny 18-year-old ass was going to get pummeled worse than Verbeek's if I kept it up...it was THAT kind of crowd.  Lots of angry "DEVILS SUCK!" chants, and "FLUUUUUUUKE!"

I didn't yet own a proper jersey, but I did wear a Devils cap (I'm amazed it wasn't ripped off my head at some point), and during the first intermission I had to take a leak...a few guys followed me for a while, and were threatening enough that I never felt comfortable going into a bathroom until they finally decided to stop their pursuit, which was at least 10 minutes later.  The Caps took a 4-3 lead as the second period ended, and the many Caps fans surrounding me let me have it...most were drunk enough and ornery enough that I didn't give them any ammo to fire them up any more than they already were.  When the Devils tied it up 4-4 in the third I didn't so much as make a peep...Caps took a 5-4 lead shortly after the third period began, and then eventually won 6-4...in an odd way I was relieved, because I figured with the Caps win, that the fans technically had no reason to be pissed off at ME anymore for liking a team that was mired in fifth place and going nowhere that year and had just lost.

Maybe it was all about a sheltered kid adjusting to a new experience, but at the time I was definitely nervous about the crowd.  They were an angry bunch...not funny, just angry.

It was all good. Didn't hear a word from a soul. Lots of Devs fans there. It seemed like a Devils game but filled with Craps fans

What a great arena as well!   Loved it

We went to DC back in July for about 5 days, and one day we were walking to a restaurant, and then out of nowhere...BOOM!  Oh that's where the Caps play!  Right there on a city block.  Looked like a pretty nice venue from the outside.

Of course, the old Cap Centre/Pringle was in Landover...it wasn't all that far from DC, but it kinda felt like it was.  Was half-in and half-out of the ground.  Apparently it was very cutting edge when first completed, but definitely not so much by the time I went there.

We had lunch at Clyde's (maybe a block or two away).  That place was great.  Might have to take my kid on a road trip for a game.  Won't ever take her to a Flyers game in Philly...way too violent of a fanbase.

About 12 years ago we went to eat at a Pizza joint not far from the arena.  In walks Chico. I yell "Hey Chico!" Figuring I might just get a hello or wave,  He came down and sat and ate with us! Talking Hockey and Devils.  Some other patron came over and asked if he was famous.  Chico told him no.  The Devils won that game.  It was a fun Veteran's Day Weekend!

That's about as Chico as it gets heh heh.  Seriously one of THE nicest guys you will ever meet.  And phenomenal with fans!  Loves to talk hockey with them, anyone, anywhere, anytime.  We're lucky to have him.

I had a similar experience when going there for a Devs game. Where is this place? Bam! I didn't get harassed either and had a nice walk around town with bars and dinner in full devils gear.
