It just seems like Fitz doesn’t want to give up on Blackwood. I think you may be pleasantly surprised this time. Schmid may have forced his way on this team. Like I don’t think Fitz will put him on waivers even though Schmid and VV are clearly the better goalies Yeah like I said in a previous post, given the choice between Blackwood and Daws as the “Break Glass In Case Of Emergency” guy in 2022-23, right now it’s Mac. But I think he’s gone after this season, no question.

I'd be surprised if he's back next season. Schmid has played very well this season and the team seem confident in him. I can't see how he doesn't get the gig full time next season. Yeah we should just call Blackwood ‘State Farm’- because dude is just an insurance policy at this point. Daws has been pretty meh with Utica this season...maybe if he was shredding it, Fitz does try to unload Mac at the deadline. But I guess he figures Mac as insurance is the lesser of two evils. I was completely onboard with Fitz sending Schmid down the first time because as others have said, we needed Blackwood as insurance at the time and Schmid just didn't have a big enough of body of work to really trust him as a 1A or 1B. At this point, barring something catastrophic to BOTH, I can't imagine a scenario where I'm okay with our playoffs coming to an end with anyone other than VV or AS in the net

I gotta be fair to him, in that he actually really wasn't that bad once he came back...he faced over 35 shots per 60 mins upon returning and put up a respectable .909 save%...but there's just a different energy with him in net. And of course, the guy just cannot stay healthy. Edited March 14, 2023 by Colorado Rockies 1976

I can see him signing a one-year, $2 million-or-so kind of deal...his cap hit over the past three years was $2.8 AAV and it's hard to imagine he won't have to take a cut. He's really a bit of a reclamation project at this point...first and foremost, he's gotta show that he can get through a season with minimal physical ailments. Oh, we all know how this ends, don't we? Maple Leafs sign him for cheap over the offseason and he starts off next season with a few good games. We listen to their crazed media and lunatic fanbase talk about what a steal they got all summer and early fall, how the Devils just weren't patient with him, etc. Then, by the end of the season he's just an afterthought once again. I could see him getting off to a solid 4-5 week start wherever he goes, then Mac talking about how he just needed a change of scenery (though it's not like Devils didn't give him plenty of looks), his team feeling like they got a steal...and then comes that first injury, followed by the inconsistency we've all grown accustomed to. Maybe he has a good season here and there, but I won't sweat it one bit if he's gone.
