NJDfan1711 Posted March 30 Share Posted March 30 Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't we only able to carry two goalies on the active roster at a time, and if Blackwood got sent down wouldn't he have to clear waivers? So basically there was no other option than to send Schmid down...? We all want Schmid to be the backup and he's earned it, but we're not losing Blackwood for nothing. At least not now. People have also been saying that we're giving Blackwood games down the stretch to increase his trade value in the off season, so if you use that logic then of course someone would claim him for free if they would potentially trade for him this off season. Sucks for Schmid though, and I feel for him big-time...but his time will come sooner than later. And honestly Blackwood could get another injury any moment. The reasons to send Schmid make sense but if VV gets hurt I think you just call up Schmid and leave Blackwood on the bench. This is a no brainer roster decision at this point. I'm sure Fitz will take Schmid's great year into account and many people are forgetting that Blackwood is made of glass. If he doesn't get a single start during the playoffs, you don't think that might even sour Blackwood a little to maybe want to move on himself. It’s not people just wanting to be upset; it’s simply about a guy who’s outplayed Ol Yeller not getting the chance to stick around and being sent down through absolutely no fault of his own. Given everything yes, I do see why the Devils more or less had to make what was guaranteed to be an unpopular decision, but that doesn’t mean we have to be happy about Schmid being sent down. Like I said previously, I give Ol Yeller the starts against the Blackhawks and the BJs…the schedule is largely forgiving enough that I think VV shouldn’t feel too fatigued as the season winds down.
