devlman
Miles Wood is not an NHL player. He directly fvcked up on goal number 2. Goal 3 was a clear missed call on Nelson for hooking Hughes. What a sloppy effort. Too many high risk passes, turnovers, soft hockey.

Also the 2000 team hardly went into the playoffs on a surge…not saying the Devils are Cup contenders this year, just that how a team goes in isn’t always a great indicator how they’re going to perform come playoff time. If the Devils are scuffling as they go in I’ll be more concerned. They do still have time to tighten things up. With all due respect I don't see a single sign of tightening up. I see opposite. It's not a December slump of course, but the team is not doing ANYTHING right at the moment. Call me a pessimist, but I have a bad feeling about the Thursday game. I'm afraid that clinching the playoffs may calm them down even more.

The Devils ironically couldn’t beat the trap tonight, and the retirement home escapee of course didn’t adjust until late in the 2nd. They better come ready to play a real game Thursday, otherwise they’ll get their teeth kicked in

Yea literally had no help and was left out to dry all 3 goals. 1) Graves falls and allows a breakaway and the goal is scored on a rebound after the initial nice save on the breakaway 2) All 5 Devils on the ice controllers die and watch Palms skate circles until he scored on a nice backhand 3) Palat turnover on a pass to Jack where Palms just fires right off the turnover over the shoulder Not many goalies stopping those shots

He hasn’t really looked great on a consistent basis for a while now, and the Isles hit 3-4 posts tonight or it could have been even worse. He was flailing around quite a bit, too. Just seemed to be fighting it a lot. He made a few nice saves, but to me our best current goalie is unfortunately riding the bus in Utica.

I'm not confident in VV and even less confident in Blackwood. If we had a Sorokin or Shesterkin, then I'd feel confident. But heading into the postseason with these two, I expect very little. Especially with the braindead defense in front of them. With that said, playing the Islanders is maddening. They completely take the Devils out of their game every single time we play them and the Devils have no answer. Palms turns into Ovechkin whenever he faces us now and they knock down our players like bowling pins. It's getting old. If we play them in the playoffs we'll maybe win one game. But I think we'd get swept. Especially under Lindy "no adjustments" Ruff. Edited March 28 by slasher72

njbuff
The Devils played like a team that was simply happy to clinch a playoff spot. And they have been in a lull since the Carolina game. Maybe they need the Ranger game to wake the fvck up.
Colorado Rockies 1976
Just some random thoughts: As sh!tty as last night was at times, Devils remain one of three teams to have banked 100 points. Think about the talent around the league, and some of the teams that have yet to do that. Fact remains that if we were told that the Devils would have 100 points at the 74-game mark prior to the start of the 2022-23 season, EVERY SINGLE ONE of us is signing up for that, regardless of how they got there. Doesn't mean that last night didn't suck and wasn't aggravating as all fvck in the moment, because it was. And if they lose fair and square to the Rangers on 3/30, as much as I'll hate it, if they play well I'll find a way to live with it. If some of the stuff that happened during the first two periods last night happens again though, it's going to be hard to take. VV has a .923 save% over his last 6 games. He's been better lately that he's given credit for. And he was not the problem last night. This is really only the Devils' second slump of the entire SEASON. Yes, the timing sucks, but it is what it is. They did recover from the prior one. As great as this year has been, and as much as some need to remind themselves that this is not a veteran team firmly in the middle of a competitive window (meaning that yes, a team still learning and figuring things out isn't going to pass every test...this shouldn't come as any great shock), doesn't mean that everyone gets a pass. It's one thing for Palat to not be putting up points at the moment, but that means he needs to dial it up in the intangibles department...can't be invisible offensively AND have such a costly giveaway. @Satans Hockey is frustrated with him and it's hard to blame him (or others). Maybe it's just a bad season, but I hope the Devils see the guy who's been good for about 55 points per 82 GP for his career for at least a couple of seasons over the course of this contract. They need his veteran presence and experience. We know Timo was going to need time, and I'm not down on him in the slightest, but it can't continue to be these loud chances that just don't have a way of being finished. Hoping the dam starts to break for him soon. Not like many of us haven't said this a ton already, but Lindy is a serious fvcking problem. This guy's answer to everything is to shuffle the lines and hope for the best...that's the only adjustment he's capable of making. The rest of the time, it's hope for Jack to do Jack things and for the talent to find ways to win games without much in the way of coaching assistance or in-game adjustments. Fitz can't pull a Shero-Hynes here and continue to keep the Devils' trailer hitched to Lindy...just like we knew that certain players would get left behind as this team turned the corner, Lindy fits that bill as the head coach. I know the Devils' record is terrific, but if anything it's a testament to the players because goddamn it sure feels like they're constantly being put in the position of having to overcome the coach never seeming to have much of a plan in place, especially once the league caught onto the Plan A that worked so well the first couple of months of the season. I really hope Fitz doesn't blindly trust Ruff to be the man solely because the Devils put up such a good record.
