I like Tatar and he’s been good but enough with not breaking up the line of him, Nico and Mercer like they’re the friggin legion of doom. Tatar needs to be swapped with Timo immediately.

I think Lindy's been a nurturing presence who probably did everything he could to keep guys like Jack, Nico, etc from getting too down on themselves and their NHL lot in life when the desired results weren't there (especially from a W-L standpoint). I think he tried to balance some level of accountability along the way, but not at the expense of coming down too harshly on the more top-end kids. I think there's a reason his players genuinely seem to like him a hell of a lot...they feel like he has their backs no matter what. Probably not a bad thing for talented kids to have as they acclimate to the best pro hockey league in the wrold. But soon (if not already) they will need more of a real taskmaster who won't be their pat-on-the-back pal/borderline father figure, as much as he'll efficiently funnel the Devils' considerable talent into a legit system that is less reliant on "talent guys doing pure talent things", or won't be based in part on VV or Schmid standing on their heads for the first 10-15 minutes of too many games while Lindy attempts to figure out how to adjust to what's been thrown at him. It won't surprise me if the players feel like they're having a little less fun at first and if there's some chafing, but as they experience a more "refined" type of success, they'll come to appreciate what they've been shown, as well as the fact that an actual system is making them better and more well-rounded players without them even realizing that it's happening. And to state one particular case,, I think a different kind of coach makes today's practice mandatory for all. I may not believe in Lindy, and he does have a lot of ability to work with now, but I give him some credit for taking the Devils this far. Just don't know how much further he'll be able to, the longer that he stays on. Jon Cooper would be a great coach for this group if and whenever he's available.

jagknife
I’m honestly okay with optional skates in the post season. The systems are, for better or in the PP case much worse, set in stone at this point. Get the rest between games when you can, especially with aspirations of a come back

Colorado Rockies 1976
OK...three series are now tied 1-1, and the Islanders are down 2-0 but Carolina needed OT to beat them. Gives me hope. L G M F D!

RunninWithTheDevil
I blame our first loss on the fact that there are still pictures of Stanley RIDDLED all over this place. C'mon, if we don't have board tradition what do we have?!

Amen to this, 100%. Don't give up the first goal, don't let the Rangers dictate the play for 55 minutes of the game like last time. njbuff
The Devils can come out flying and take it to the Rags, but Sh!tstain stands on his head and doesn’t allow anything. Then the Rags will get a decent scoring chance and VV allows a softee. It’ll be “Here we go again”. PLEASE Devils, DO NOT let this happen. Guy has come through plenty this season, and for extended stretches. But yeah, gotta solve Shesterkin. Glad Hughes beat him, even if was on a penalty shot...at the very least, maybe the Devils start going for more pure rips instead of trying one more pass.

Guadana
Devils lost their first ECF game 0-3 against rangers in 2012. They lost 3rd game 0-3 too.

I won't give up but 0-2 heading into MSG...bleech. That being said, getting to the playoffs at all for this bunch is still a major win, regardless of how it turns out. The young guys NEEDED this...school is officially in session. They're getting valuable on-the-job training. The Lightning were swept in the 2014 playoffs, and went on to reach the Finals the following season (and the Conference Finals after that)...after being swept again in 2019, they won two straight Cups and got to the Final the following year. Not saying that I would ever expect that level of success, but should this wind up being a one-and-done, as much as I hate hate HATE ever losing to the Rangers...it's not really as bad as it would feel in the moment. Especially since this team is still not a finished product. Edited April 20 by Colorado Rockies 1976

LGD Bolded isn't really accurate...after the rough start, they played the Rangers mostly to a draw for a while (at times even pressuring them some), but obviously gotta score some goals of their own. And at 3-0 the game was clearly over.
