I don't think Blue Jackets will draft him, they need center. And Kekka is on the hot seat now with Johnny Gaudreanee and Laine on contracts. Sharks only started with their rebuild and their group doesn't afraid of Russians. And Michkov will not play for them next three years, it will help to achieve more talented players on the next drafts. Ducks should make serious work on this market, Zegras and McTavish should be better next season, Fantilli may be can make some impact from the start, if he will have good partners to make some job for him. And west is pretty open. I think jackets will draft Carlsson and it will make them very good in the next few years. Its not the question of next year, but in few years they have a lot of good stuff to make their sky high. Its too damn sad we don't have first this year. I'm not upset we spent it in Meier trade, im happy with it. Its just so fun to work with the draft, there are so many interesting players in the first round. But I just don't have so much time to make so much deep dive to study potential 40-70 picks. Will figure it out after draft and will watch tapes/games of what we will got. Obvious need is centers, but I have a feeling, that good ones will not fall so far. I think if there are no obvious options with big scoring centers, we should find more drivers on this draft, may be with lower floor. Feels like we don't have enough in the system. Would be great to find power scoring forwards(Vadim Moroz). And mobile defensive defensemen with good skating ofcourse. I know we have some, but defensive work in nhl is so tough, more often its about mentality and defensive IQ(don't forget about good skating and normal level of other skills). And future cap issues, new deals of Luke, Dawson and Simon will push organisation to make regular rotation in the bottom of offense and defense. Can Fitz please scout the KHL and find us a legit Russian goalie prospect? That's what I'd like to see happen. LIDevsFan1
here’s hoping pride overtakes complacency. much easier to focus on work than the last elimination game.

I have a couple of youngsters and a couple of veeeery good overages my pocket. But we don't have goalie scout here and never drafted a goalie from here. Im not a fan of it if we are being honest. Chimaira_Devil_#9
This means our first pick this year will be number 58, right at the back of the second round. Getting our drafting right is still absolutely critical to the Devil's long term project. The cap means we are going to need to find value in these late slots to keep depth and add team controlled players in the future. I know many people still subscribe to BPA, but the forward depth is something we really need to work on.

That makes withstanding UFA departures impossible. And though I have a lot of confidence in Fitz, let's face it...as an assistant GM and then the full-time GM, when you land a couple of 1OAs, a 2OA, a 4OA, and a 7OA (this one may turn out to be a bust, hopefully not), that's a hell of a lot to work with. Now you gotta hit those lower firsts (the ones that don't go in Meier-like deals, anyway) and those seconds and thirds. Guys like Kucherov and Robertson were taken in the second round...you absolutely CAN find talent there. Been over it but also Utica needs to churn out bottom 6ers in the seasons to come...those are the guys that you really want to avoid overpaying...if you can have those players sprinkling in on ELCs, that's such a help in keeping the overall cap hits down...also gives your team a chance to add an expensive piece (say, a goalie) if it feels like your team is truly that one last player away from winning it all. Of course you'll occasionally losing guys you don't want to see go once their ELCs are up, but can't keep everyone.

I know many people still subscribe to BPA, but the forward depth is something we really need to work on. Severson, Coleman, Okhotyuk and Zetterlund were all drafted right in this range. Even just as trade chips, the last two added a lot of value. Hopefully we can add a similar level player and not the next Mike Hoeffel. This scouting staff has been churning out at least 3 guys each year that have either become players for the Devils or had value in a trade (Ty Smith). Obviously we're not dealing with top 5 picks or multiple 1st rounders anymore so hopefully scaling that back, hopefully they can land two useful pieces in the entire draft. Getting a least one is imperative for maintaining the depth (and trade chips) that you referenced. Edited May 16 by Lateralous
Guadana
Late second rounders isn`t the good place to find NHLers. But with good scouting and right tactics you can have more opprotunities to find right player. It`s very rare to find good NA player in the end of the second round. It`s easier to find good defenseman. It`s better to take players with good skating and iq. Salminen was a wrong pick in the days, when they had good workin player Mazur and good defensive defenseman Svozil right after him, both are players with some NHL potential. It`s very hard to find a player with top-6 potential, but it`s easy to find good defensive defenseman with good skating. You can bet on good russian prospects, but you can do it later too.
