bash brothers are our longest tenured devils. glad they're sticking around for a few more years.

Nico and Bratt are the longest tenured Devils if you go off when they entered the league.

I still think Devs are keeping an eye out for a vet goaltender. But every team in the same position want a cheap back up. Like Logan Thompson. I really doubt LV would entertain trading him for the same reason. He's decent goaltender, and more importantly, inexpensive.  Fans want us to pursue, Gibson, Hellebuyck, Knight? All too expensive. Maybe Fitz will stick with Kallgren? Maybe he'll see what pops up on the waiver wire when camp(s) opens. I have the confidence in VV & Schmid.

Logan Thompson would be a very interesting pickup. I’d be in favor of that type of move. Low risk, high reward.

Yeah, put me in on taking a risk on a cheap, young goalie. I'd take a risk there. Partially also why I wouldn't be pissed off if Kallgren was our 3rd goalie. Can't hurt to have 3-4 who are NHL capable at any time. I think you have the year that Vegas did when it came to goalies or our year when we went through 7 or 8 where they just couldn't stay healthy no matter what we did. I have to imagine those kind of seasons are anomalies, but it sucks and it seems to hit the worse teams in the league.

Happy birthday Chico!!

Chico is as class act as it gets.  We're lucky to have had him in the fold for so many years.

Also happy B-day to my dad, HIS dad, and HIS eldest brother.  Only my dad (74 today) is still with us, but with three July 10 B-days in the family, we had some pretty epic family celebrations.

Wow that's pretty crazy.  My birthday is Jan 30.  My one son is exactly 2 weeks before mine on the 16th and my other son is exactly 2 weeks after mine on Feb 13th.  I thought that was pretty cool.

Also, my wife and I both have brothers named Scott and their birthdays on each other's half birthdays.  One Feb 13th and the other Aug 13th.  Probably should have at least given my one son the middle name of Scott since he joins them but totally missed the coincidence at the time.

..It's a pretty slow day at the office.

Every day we get closer!

It’s funny, right now not much to chat about with the Devils, but that’s because Fitz was so damned expeditious in addressing what needed to be addressed that there’s simply not all that much left for him to do.

That doesn’t stop writers everywhere from trying to force the Devils being linked to this player or that one…but most of that stuff, I’m not seeing it.  Outside of eventually re-signing Bahl and possibly locking up Dawson (or at least starting the talks), I think Fitz is done for this offseason.  And I have zero complaints about that.

Oh, and as far as this early stuff goes…nice to see some new names in there…basically, non-Reilly Walshes.

So the Devils have Fitz's kid, Recchi's kid, Dineen's kid and Stillman's kid in the DC this year.  Damn, the older you get...the more reminders there are to make you ever more aware of that fact.  Dammit.

As is usually the case with DCs, most of these kids won't ever be heard from at the NHL level, but of course, always fun to get a look at guys like Casey, Brennan, Filmon and a couple of others.

If this is true then man I do feel some for Schmid.  Guy was a huge factor in knocking out the Devils' fiercest rival in the playoffs and played well most of the time whenever called upon in the regular season.  He's gotta be wondering "Damn WTF more do I have to do?!  How many fvcking chances did that Deadwood guy get?!  I outplayed him and I'M the one who had to go to make room for him!"

If anything, sounds like the price for one year of Hellebuyck might be coming down just low enough for Fitz to seriously consider going for it.  Guessing he'll talk to Schmid and tell him something along the lines "Look kid, you play a ton in Utica, show us that you're durable enough to handle 1A minutes, and you're coming into 2024-25 with a job to lose!  Just gotta wait a little longer."

Fitz might just be worried about the overall depth at the position. If you have Schmid and Vanacek as 1B and 1A, what happens if one or both get hurt? Maybe he wants Schmid to be the first call up option.

I would be interested in a cheap option.

I'm thinking he viewed our goalies as relatively healthy last year and is worried that luck pendulum will swing against us we'll get nailed with injuries at that position again.

Prefer is also a strong word in the tweet. I simply could see depth there something to address. Just another body who can play NHL games.
