Yeah, seriously…imagine watching some guy scoring a painful double OT goal against your team that propels your hated rival into the SCF (which they go on to win), and then years later, your team drafts that guy’s fvcking son (who even has the same first name, though spelled differently), and said former first-rounder son goes on to be a big- time bust…

Oh fvck…that actually happened…

Even more annoying when that was the pick we should have just given up with how low the pick was that year.

Yeah obviously I think we all appreciate Lou's time here but he definitely made some very odd decisions (especially after the Cup years).  I would NEVER try to make any Fitz vs Lou comparisons (or build up Fitz to disparage the guy who won THREE Cups here), but I can't see Fitz not almost immediately giving that pick up...or quite frankly, a whole lot of other GMs doing the same.  That one is just impossible to defend...and at the very least, you better be REALLY fvcking sure about the guy you're insisting on keeping that pick for.  At least it's all water under a bridge that's firmly in the rearview...and at least this version of Lou is now making all of his mistakes with a division rival...

That (Foote) goal was one I remember. It imo began the turn around for Avs. Had em down 3-1 in games. And lost next 3. Marty wasn't at his best,

Devils were down 2-1 in that series and were actually down 2-1 in third period of Game 4, when Roy misplayed a puck that led to the Devils tying it, and then the Devils took the lead late in the third period and tied the series up 2-2...then went into Colorado and won pretty handily to go up 3-2 in the series...and then starting with Foote's goal that gave the Avs the lead in Game 6, it pretty much all went to sh!t.  Avs scored 7 straight goals over Game 6 and 7 before Sykora finally broke that string...but that was it for the offense.  And yeah 2000-01 was not one of Marty's better seasons...that team covered up for him quite a bit that year.

I like the part where Dano is talking about the first time making the playoffs and talked about Lou moving out guys and he was incredibly thankful that he wasn't one of the guys moved out because he believed in what they were doing.

He eventually says, "It might sound corny but that's just the way I was as a kid. I wanted to be a building block and really didn't want to go anywhere else and going through the "lean" years and he believed that the team would turn the corner and he really wanted to be a part of that."

I wanted to yell at him, "IT'S NOT CORNY. IT'S CALLED CHARACTER, DAMMIT!" I think besides the one time that Lou threatened to trade him was the only time that Lou even considered it when Lou gave him the famous "a hockey team is like an orchestra" speech.

I look at it as Fitz and Lou both technically saved this franchise. It's soooooo hard to do. What Lou did in between 1987-2009 and now what Fitz has done since he took over for Shero. I think Lou could have pulled off a rebuild and still kept the core players around, but a lot of it was relying on a core that aged out in 2006. Lou tried, but didn't really get the hits that he needed on the draft. Should have taken a few years and just called them "lean" years where we focused on selling off big names and getting a real nice prospect pool.

Don’t forget the Gomez goal that was waved off in game 6; put us on the board first, but they claimed it was kicked in. Then Foote scored and it all went to sh!t.

I think that might be the most disappointing sporting event I’ve attended in my entire life.  Maybe even ones I didn’t attend.   Between the Roy gaffe in game 4 and the ass kicking in game 5 where literally every guy on our team that had been a bit cold scored in that game, I really thought we were going to lock up back to back cups that night.  I showed up the the stadium parking lot with enough food and beer for a second tailgate after the game.  Everything looked good until the Foote goal.

Was the Gomez goal controversial?   I was on the opposite side of the arena but I thought it was pretty clear cut. I honestly haven’t watched a replay of it since probably that night but I don’t remember it being a questionable call.

What no one ever brings up for that cup is the three day lay off after game 5 for stupid Tv reasons. Up to that point we were pounding their big three dmen every game and noticably wearing them down. Then they get a extra long rest break in the middle of the series that allowed Bourque and Co to heal up and recharge.

I still to do this day feel we win if they didn't get that bs extra break

It was absolutely the worst Devils game I’ve ever attended. I felt sick to my stomach walking out of the building. Not to mention completely disgusted. They folded after the waved off goal. As far as the waved off goal itself- I don’t remember how controversial it was because they never showed replays in the arena, and I will never watch an iota of footage from that series as long as I live. 22 years later and it’s still too painful.

Team totally folded after the goal was waved. 2 replays I will never watch that one and carolina tying and go ahead goal in that game 7.

It was absolutely a kicked-in goal...call was legit.

But yeah, mentioned it before but I was at a hotel bar with my then-girlfriend (later became my wife) and bunch of Devils fans that she knew from work.  I remember walking out of there thinking "Oh maaaaaaaan..."  After Game 5 it just felt like back-to-back Cup wins were so in their grasp...and then for the Avs to not only say "Sorry boys, nope" and the WAY that they did it, just completely taking over...

Well, it could be worse...the Devils could only have one Cup since 1940 I suppose...

Will always love just how bad Palat made Fox and Kreider look on that McLeod goal.  Palat even coughed up the puck to Kreider after stealing it from Fox and then stole it back from Kreider AGAIN lmfao.

After stuff like the cup clinchers, Henrique it’s over, the Elias winner against the Flyers in the 2000 ECF, this might be one of my favorite goals ever.   I wanted that series against the Rangers so badly and this was such a perfect series clinching goal.  Palat earned every penny of his salary for the season on that one play.

That was the Palat that we paid 6m/year for. I really hope he looks better this season coming in healthy. I think I agree with mostly everyone eye test that he was a step slower when he came back from injury.

Late summer thinking and hoping Palat's groin is okay. God the season needs to start. Sports are great. Lol

He brought it in the playoffs. If he brings it again I think he'll earn his paycheck.

Maybe because it’s early August but I’m kindve surprised at the lack of season/individual ticket advertising. No billboards, tv/radio, or even the algorithm of my internet ads.

The organization better be pushing the hell out of this team. Now is the time in our window where you can start capturing new fans. The novelty of being a winning team after so much losing is still in play.

There are no more attendance excuses for us anymore. We’re not playing at CAA, not playing a defensive structure. We just beat the Rags in 7. This is the most exciting Devils team coming into a season I can ever remember. I plan to be at a ton of games. I’m curious to know how season ticket sales are doing.

Well their ticket reps are working the phones, been getting calls and emails to sign  up for season packages for about 3 weeks now.
