What’s the story with this? He showed them an offensive picture?

Asked to look through personal pictures on their phones. Some of the younger players were very uncomfortable with it.

😂😂They probably have very different library of pictures than the veterans who are married with children.

No doubt.

The guy is old.  There was a time where it was normal to show pictures of you family to others.  It seems that he is trying to create a connection with his players.

However, I will admit that I don’t know anything about him, other than he is an NHL coach.  So, I don’t know what makes him a weirdo.

This is not on the players.

If Babcock is so interested in his players' backgrounds and families and really wants to get to know them better, there's ways to go about it that are a lot more "normal" and less invasive.  He can have one-on-one sitdowns and ask for each player to send him some pics of family and friends in advance...he sure as hell shouldn't expect each player to hand over his phone so that he can just scroll and peruse through their photo files as he sees fit.  A personal cell phone is just that:  PERSONAL.  Some players might have pics on their phones that they simply don't want their coach to see, for reasons that only have to make sense to them; I can see why some players might feel very uncomfortable being put on the spot by their coach like that...especially younger ones who are flat-out terrified to say no.  At the very least, such a thing clearly is NOT standard procedure.

And in a league that can't wait to give a retread yet another shot (see Laviolette, Peter), the fact that it took a while for a guy like Babcock to get another chance as an NHL head coach should've been a clear sign to him that he wasn't in any position to fvck it up...especially given that he not only had a questionable rep to begin with, but also because there were former players very willing to go on record to let people know how little they thought of him.  He needed to tread carefully, especially when it came to off-the-ice matters.

Even if some players didn't have an issue with Babcock wanting to see their phones, that doesn't mean it wasn't an odd request.  And asking a young player like Mitch Marner to rate his teammates' work ethic from best to worst, and then sharing that info with Marner's teammates...I'm sorry, that's definitely fvcking weird.  Scratching Mike Modano so that he wouldn't reach 1500 GP for his career...fvcking weird.  Especially since the Red Wings had nothing at all to lose by playing him:

Mike Modano talks about Babcock benching him: ‘It was a bitter pill’ (clickondetroit.com)

Pre-sale for the outdoor game is today for me, really curious about the prices. I honestly have no interest in going but since it's right here I still will. Metlife sucks, it's such a terrible stadium and getting out of the parking lot is a nightmare. The whole being outdoors experience is extremely overrated.

As long as ticket prices are semi normal I'll still go, if they are absurd I might just wait to the day of or before and see how much the secondary market drops.

Yeah I'm not one to yuck others' yums, but the outdoor experience just doesn't interest me.  In my younger years (say in my 20s), I probably would've gone at least once.  Now I'm just not interested in the bad sightlines, dealing with the cold (though of course the weather could be reasonably warm)...and the whole thing feels more gimmicky now.

But to those who genuinely enjoy attending outdoor NHL games, all the power to them.  I'd just rather go watch the Devils play indoors.

I'm use to being out in the cold cause of the Red Bulls season starting in late February / early March and that doesn't bother me, I just think Metlife sucks. I've been to a bunch of other NFL stadiums and it's the absolute worst one I've been to that's of the newish builds.

View wise I actually had a really good view at Yankee Stadium, I sat behind the goal and you could see great. I'm gonna aim for the same thing here in the 200s/300s.

I'm just happy it's against Philly instead of the Rangers so should be dealing with less morons at least.

I exercise outdoors to the tune of 8-12 miles per day regardless of heat, cold, rain, etc, but I think what helps is being on the move.  I dress for whatever the weather is, and I would obviously do the same for an outdoor event, but I think it's the standing or sitting around that gets to me in cold weather.  But yeah, I can't say that cold bothers me about winter...it's actually everything else about it that does (short days, everything getting that "dead" look, etc).

Ranger fans bring the dumb, Philly fans bring the violence.  Can't say I have much good to say about either fanbase heh heh.  The Ranger fans who showed up to the playoff games last year were just the fvcking worst.  I was never so happy to see them lose...my only regret was not being there for Game 7, after having gone to Games 1, 2 and 5.

Getting rid of daylight savings time is supposed to be coming I think next year, they have been talking about it, that would help with the amount of daylight at least.

Flyers fans have been mellow for years now, helps that they suck now too but I've seen way more fights at Rangers games, there were a few during the playoffs, than I have at Flyers games in the past decade.

Heh heh, re:  Rangers fans, when your 14-year-old daughter is observing them in action and asks "What the fvck is wrong with those people?", that tells you all that you need to know.  Not saying that Devils fans are perfect (the mutants definitely bring the cringe), but fvcking Rangers fans are the worst.  I know and have met some decent ones, but they really are few and far between.  I love the fact that they lost their last two playoff series against the Devils...especially since both seasons were supposed to be big ones for the Rangers.  Remember douchenozzles like Valiquette wondering aloud if the Tarasenko and Kane deals made the Rangers the Cup favorites?  Couldn't even get past the Jersey kids, many of whom had little to no playoff experience.  The Rangers can't suck enough for me.

My only annoyance is they didn't say which side the Devils shoot 2x. Here's some prices looking at it now. Now this is just my assumption but if you're looking at the seating chart the right side, just like the prudential charts right side is most likely the Devils attack 2x side.

Again, that's me just assuming.

I got tickets right behind the goal in the end zone in the 200s front row for $151 a ticket after fees.

All these prices are before fees...

Behind the goals...

100s - $135

200As - $125

200Bs - $105

300s - $85

In the center behind benches

100s  - $315

200s - $300

300s - $150

In the center behind penalty box

100s  - $300

200s - $300

300s - $150

Chiclets were told that the experience with the vets was very different from young kids.

He, allegedly, invited one of the young guys over his house for lunch, to get to know him, and when he got there Babs asked to go through his phone and after he was done he just told the player to leave...without lunch. Total fvcking sociopath. Dude gets off on having power over people.

Unrelated - - I just had a YouTube ad pop up and just as I was tuning out I realized it was freaking Nico advertising going to Switzerland and I think it used footage from some Devils promo material or something.

Finally lol.  I dug #96 myself.  But if #28 is what makes him happy, it's all good.

The whole thing is just super weird, I’m sure they’re happy to have gotten rid of him.

.. side note, when does training camp start for the regular roster

Solid of him, I figured the devils would give some type of discount to have the number changed or jersey swapped

I still think of that guy who jumped the gun and went with #43 when Jack got drafted (think he was wearing it during the actual draft IIRC), well before Jack announced that he'd be wearing #86.  For his sake I hope he kept that #43...

Got a bit lucky myself...I was able to snag a home and away game-issued Luke jersey (with the 40th anniversary patch) for not-too-insane of a cost off Meigray.  Probably the cheapest that his GI/GW will ever be.

Will be weird seeing Timo in #28 as a Devil...I'll always think of Rafalski (very fondly) and Seves (not quite as fondly) when I see #28.  I'm sure Timo will make it his in short order.

Timo’s 96 was always a bit easier for me to differentiate between 86 & 56 because he’s so much bigger than those two, but I imagine people that did constantly confuse him for Jack or Haula will like this better.

Heh heh yeah that did cross my mind.  I definitely got 86 and 56 crossed up on occasion.
