For next year and beyond, yes.  And apparently he's looking for over $13 million AAV.  Hard sell considering how erratic he's been the past two years.

Cool, hope no one throws them that life preserver, and if they do, hopefully Trouba nixes it like he did the Detroit deal🤣

They'll have almost $30 million in space next year, but as you can imagine, lots of guys to sign.  If Lafreniere can build off last season, he's getting a hefty raise (he's arb-eligible, as is Kakko, Miller, Edstrom, and Jones).  Smith and Lindgren are both UFA to be, along with Shesterkin.

Basically, it's a good thing for them that they'll have a lot to spend, because they have a lot of guys that they'll need to pay.  Of course if they ever decided to let Shesterkin walk and can rid themselves of Trouba, they suddenly have a LOT of interesting possibilities.

Another way to put it...if Shesterkin has yet another up and down season, AND follows that up with a meh playoff, SHOULD the Rangers should be so quick to just sign him to absolute top-level money (assuming he makes it to UFA)?

I can’t see that happening. I know Shesterkin is asking for $13 million, but it’s a negotiation at the end of the day. They’ll probably meet in the middle somewhere around $10.5-11. Even so, Shesterkin is going to eat up a good chunk of cap for them for a while

Yeah I’d be surprised if they let him walk, but man is it going to cost them.

He does have a career .928 save% come playoff time…when it comes getting big money, that certainly won’t hurt his cause one bit…especially if he can do that again.

Yes of course they should. Top goaltenders are super rare and they would be mad to let him walk

He was top notch three seasons ago.  The last two he’s been very inconsistent.    Ranger fans were really frustrated with him for a while last year.

And like I said, if he turned in a THIRD straight up and down season, and also wasn’t good in the playoffs, is he really worth “top goaltender” money at that point?  The Rangers will probably just do it anyway because of the cap space they’ll have, but I think it’s a fair question to ask.

Igor potentially not being good in the playoffs would be a laughing matter. Believe he's one of the best playoff performing goal attenders in history. The playoffs is where he steps up more than anyone else in the world. He will get paid and if the rangers hypothetically don't pay him almost every other team in the league will find the way to give him what he wants.

Yeah I pointed out that he’s been an excellent puckstopper so far, but not like it’s some major sample size to date.

And yeah never said he won’t get sizable coin…it’s will he actually get $13+ million?  That’s SO much money, especially for a guy who will never play anywhere near 82 games a year.

And it won’t be almost every other team, because it’s not like tons of teams have that kind of cap space to blow on a goalie.  It would be a very select group who’d seriously want to make a run.

Igor is a type of goalie that a team would make a move just for the sake of being able to make him move at him. Only goaltender in the playoffs that has been better has been well Henrik. Their career seem pretty even to this point Igor keeps on the pace he's on, he will surpass even maybe. A down year for Igor is it good year for everyone else. It really sucks cuz one thing the rangers can do is elite goaltending I believe in a list like 40 or 50 years they've gone only seven seasons without elite goaltending.

I know I'm a couple weeks late, but Cap Friendly is officially a private site and has been taken off the web.  Oddly enough, Salary Swish still exists, not sure why.

It isn't as detailed or as easy on the eyes to navigate, but one of the closest alternatives I can find if anyone needs it is this website: https://www.spotrac.com/nhl/new-jersey-devils/overview/_/year/2024

https://puckpedia.com/

Puckpedia is taking the torch, I believe. I think they are working on offering more of the features Capfriendly had and have already released their version of "Armchair GM".

Last two seasons have been erratic, but overall yeah, the numbers are solid.  Playoff numbers to date are terrific, but again, it's not like he's had loads of playoff experience to date (44 starts compared to 117 for Lundqvist).  I do like that the Rangers have a way of not being able to put a team good enough to take advantage of their edge in goal through the years.  Henrik had a four-year stretch where he was dynamite, but the Rangers squandered it.

One thing that's hard to do is predict exactly when guys will decline or start to break down.  Cory Schneider's came very quickly, and he wasn't even that old when it happened.

How big a deal is this, legally speaking?

EDIT:

Quote

One source briefed on the draft night situation said that no gambling impropriety was discovered or any intent for Marek to gain financially from what happened.

So if that is true the NHL was just pissed off he was spilling beans to someone.

Also, the comments near the top in this thread on Reddit are pretty hilarious.
