How many times I said Devils were good in the draft day with Mukhamadullins pick and he was Devils pick from the beggining?

Was he really their pick from the beginning though?  Didn’t the Devils want Schneider but the Rangers traded up to jump one slot ahead so that they could nab him?

I also remember many being surprised by the Muk selection, as some projected him to go in later rounds (some even had him going in the third round).  It was seen as a reach pick at the time.

Obviously so far so good…Muk (with others) had enough value to allow the Devils to make the deal for Timo.  Curious to see how Muk does once he finally gets called up…seems like that should happen pretty soon.  He’s looked quite good in his brief AHL stints so far…and Quinn was gushing about his play in preseason.

Its a false narrative from rangers side. I have a couples of semi proves. Devils didnt use pause to rethinking it. And When they taped pre draft work, they shows how Fitz watched Amirov(R.I.P., Rodion) and he was amazed by Shakir, said he is what they want to pick. They didnt have draft picks before 4th round as I remember. So even if they have Schneider ahead on their list, it wasnt problem for them, they wanted Mukhamadullin. Overall I made pre draft work and told why Schneider isnt a good pick. After few years I can easily say that Schneider isnt exactly what Fitz wanted from top-20 picks. He wants higher ceiling from the beggining. Stillman was exception but scout, who drafted tonns of nothing from CHL, already fired).

AHL is a weak league for Shakir. He already looked better than everyone when he visited us in the first time. Wish him luck, money and success.

Blackwood 1GA on 52 shots .981 vs Colorado.       Igor 5 GA on 21 shots .762.....

Blackwood made some big saves in that game for sure but also got some breaks…saved by the posts a few times. But he did have a good game, no doubt.

As much as I love Igor giving up five goals, those goals were more on his teammates.  Schneider’s pairing had a particularly lousy evening…I’d say Shesterkin had no chance on any of Jenner’s goals (left wide open right by the net on the first goal, other two goals were off deflections).

Supposedly, the third round pick that the Devils had that year (#84) was just far enough into that round that Fitz said fvck it and decided to take Muk way ahead of his projected spot, instead of risking another team taking him.  #84 was used to select Daws.

Same, I’m rooting for Muk.  For one, he’s in the West (only gotta face him a couple of times a year) and the Devils had enough in their pipeline and on the team that they could afford to deal him for another need.  And for another, it’s good for former Devils prospects to have some success…there may be other “prospects for right now players” deals to be made here and there…you don’t want teams afraid to make deals for your kids due to too many of them not working out.

Yeah, absolutelty agree. We cant make robbery deals every time. Gms will not deal with us after or will rate our prospects lower.

WIth Casey, Vilen, Orlov and Karpovich in pipe line(may be Leddy, but I didnt watch his games after draft mostly) Devils have huge defensive prospect depth. And Nemec still doesnt play in NHL. Devils easily can(and I think they should) deal some of them in the future. For now its a puzzle for GM and for fans how we will treat Casey in the near future. He is electric prospect with huge potential. And we already have Nemec with Marino and Dougie signed for long term. We cant trade Marino, because he is very good defenseman on cheap deal and he play important role as shotdown defenseman and as main PK specialist. Very interesting case.

I watched that game. He was lights out

I was one of the very few that still believed in him.

We'll see I guess

Good for him if he figures it out in San Jose but by the end of last season I was absolutely done with the MacKenzie Blackwood experience.   I don't remember ever wanting a player off the team more than him.  It didn't help that Lindy kept putting him out there for meaningful games.

Yeah you can only give a guy so many chances to keep not getting it done.  And both VV and Schmid made Blackwood expendable.

And to add to this...nothing against Leeds in the slightest, but every now and then I see some Devils fan say that they never stopped believing in him...to that, I say based on what?

I know the Devils were still a team in transition when Mac came aboard, but had he played well enough, he would have been given every last chance to have been a part of this thing.

But he put up an .892 save% over his final 74 games here, and in his final three seasons overall, had a GSAA of -22.1...and of course, couldn't be relied upon to stay healthy.  He was simply bad.

IF he finally puts it all together with the Sharks and finally builds off the promise he showed during his first two seasons with the big club, hell, all the power to him...the Sharks paid a reclamation price for him, and he would turn out to have been a very nice scrap-heap pickup.  But it was just over for him here.

Of all the players on this team's history, Mack is the one you wanted gone more than any other?  I could pick 50

Injuries hurt him and we could all see it

Whatever, it is what it is

The problem is that at some point, the injury bug may simply be part of his makeup (and that could be holding him back, hard to tell since it's been a while since he made it through a full season unscathed).  Some players just have a way of getting hurt much more than others.

I know Laterous was the one who made the "gone more than any other" comment...I was definitely most ready to move on, especially with VV and Schmid here.

As far as Devils that I REALLY wanted gone...I definitely got sick of Sean Burke's act, especially when he told the fans who weren't behind him (after multiple lousy seasons) that they could "Go to hell."  Steve Thomas was plenty disappointing, especially compared to the player he'd been prior to coming here.  Seves definitely drove me crazy with the brain-dead gaffes that never truly went away (though obviously he did some good things while here).  I remember calling Lovejoy "Killjoy" on a number of occasions.

Of course, sometimes we get it wrong...I was fed up with Bratt at the beginning of the 2021-22 season.  He still has his "Huh Jepser what?" moments, but now a lot of points come with them.

There may be some recency bias there but by the end of last year, he had to go.

CD#9 posted that in another thread (Devils - Panthers GDT).

The giveaway that landed him on the bench was classic Severson...and why he's not a Top 4 on a good team.  He never EVER learns from his mistakes.  Still making rookie mistakes after playing for YEARS in the NHL.  At least it ain't the Devils who signed up for eight more years of that.
