It won’t be BUT this is finally what everyone knows what NEEDS to happen.

Also great to see Nico getting his reps. Let his head clear up, stabilize and then ice him.

Last thing we want to see is him go down Nolan Patrick’s unfortunate road and have to be done with the game due to headshots

He has to be the only Devils player in history in which the fanbase has a unanimously negative opinion of. I have never seen one fan say they like him in the lineup.

I was just trying to rack my brain to think of another, especially since the Devils were so bad for a while...there's probably someone that I'm missing, but yeah, I think Smith is pretty universally despised as a player.  With a now-healthy Miller in the picture, it's just REALLY hard to Lindy to justify continuing to play him.

No one liked Ken Klee.

Lindy says Timo isn't even skating. Ffssss

Ken Klee...heh heh I remember that guy.  Devils gave up Suglobov for him...I remember some fans acting like the Devils had just given up a prime prospect (he was enjoying a career year in the AHL, but was already 23), but he fizzled out of the NHL pretty quickly...scored his lone career NHL goal as a Devil, and managed just 18 games overall in the NHL.  He then spent a bunch of seasons in the KHL, but didn't do a whole lot.

Jeez…there’s always someone who likes to be the hipster contrarian. There’s no way he honestly believes this. And he’s insultingly condescending assuming every last critic just doesn’t see the ‘in your face noticeable’ plays.

Who specifically would you replace in the middle of the lineup?   I feel like everyone who isn't an elite skill guy (Hughes x2, Bratt, Hamilton) already is 6'-0" and pretty physical.  The only player I can think of where you could realistically make a significant upgrade in size and toughness would be Holtz.  Maybe Siegenthaler but he had some snarl in the playoffs last year.  I still remember Panarin trying to jump on him as he was beating the sh!t out of one of the other Rangers.

fvck yeah!

Holtz for sure and probably try for a more talent, tougher Bastian.  I don't see Holtz (at this point in his career)helping them at all in the playoffs.  He's a good shooter/passer but below average NHL level on everything else (skating/puck battles/covering his man/etc) Bastian- just seems fairly easily replaceable.  He needs to produce more and at least be more physical.  Maybe he'll step up-he's been better in the past. As a whole the Devils big guys are not very physical at all. Physicality also opens up the ice more for the skill guys and puts some fear in the opposition.  I hate Trouba -but he does that very well for his team which I can't seem to remember at the moment....

Not like we ever had condescending contrarians posting here, heh heh

Yeah there's just no buttering up the turd on ice that is Smith.  I'm just glad Miller is able to play...I mentioned it before, but with the way this worked out, Miller feels like a guy Fitz just dealt for.  Now there's some time to evaluate how the D plays once Smith is properly relegated to 7th-D status, and then Fitz can evaluate if bringing in Zadorov truly makes sense (I'm cooling on this idea, mostly because of his hit and the lack of cap space to work with...not to mention giving up any nice assets for a guy who may be here only though the end of this season).

I think Trouba plays for the Staten Island Strangers, a team with the most obnoxious fanbase of all time.

You forgot dumbest.

Hate when their fans show up.  After going to Games 1 and 2 (yuck) and then Game 5, I really regret not going to Game 7.  I would've loved to have been there as they sauntered out of our building.  There's no understating what a failure of a season that turned out to be for the Rangers...they went for it, all-in...last year was a Cup-or-Bust year for them.  You had smug idiots like Valic*nt acting like bringing in both Tarasenko AND Kane made them the favorites to win the whole shebang.  After those two 5-1 blowouts, the last thing they could've expected (the players and fans alike) was that they'd making a first-round exit.

Last night was a good win for them, but no, a regular season win in November doesn't come close to the Devils curbstomping their Cup dreams last year.  They can all just go screw.

Not my work, but it more or less captures what happened.

Oh yes the Strangers..of course. Aren't they the team that plays in the World's Most Heinous Arena? Or maybe it's the World's Most Anus Area or something like that.....

It’s definitely Anus, as the organization itself is ass.

So I'm certainly not suggesting the team is out of it completely, but just as a consolation prize as we're likely going to be out of the playoffs at Thanksgiving...

What's this draft looking like? Are they legit talents to be had in the middle of the first round?

San Jose gets the Devils' first-round pick this year anyway (unless it's Top 10, which is impossible to fathom), but yeah, the last thing that I'm thinking about is the friggin' 2024 draft.  I still feel like this season is going to turn around, as long as the injuries stop piling up.  The lack of info with these injuries is beyond frustrating, but that's an NHL thing, not a Devil-specific thing.

Fair enough to all lol, I agree that it sucks to even consider thinking about the draft given all the preseason hype.  And I frankly forgot that we do not have our 1st rounder (agree that top-10 is, hopefully, completely unrealistic).  So, really, there ain't much to think about at all.  Need to right this ship once we're healthy and get back to it.

Which speaking of getting healthy, saw that Nico is finally back to practice.  I believe the answer is 'no' but did we ever get... any... insight into why he missed significant time?  I hope it wasn't a concussion.

Wait, don't the Sharks only get our 1st rounder this year if we make it to the ECF?

2023 1st round pick (NJD - #26 - Quentin Musty) [Conditional]*
2024 2nd round pick (NJD) [Conditional]**
2024 7th round pick (NJD)
*Conditions: If the pick is a top-two selection, New Jersey will instead transfer their own 2024 first-round pick.

Result: Sharks will receive Devils 2023 1st round pick
**Conditions: If NJD make the 2023 Eastern Conference Final (ECF) and Meier plays in 50% of the games, or NJD make the 2024 Eastern Conference Final, the pick becomes NJD's 2024 1st.

If 2024 1st is top 10, NJD have the option to instead transfer their 2025 1st.

Should NJD transfer their 2023 1st to their 2024 1st (As it is top 2 protected), and they make the conference final in 2024, SJS will receive their 2025 1st.

Looks like you're right, based on the above.
