If we were shipping vv back the other way in almost some type of even swap I’d absolutely be on board to shake things up with a new face in a new environment.. if that were the case it’s well worth trying, can’t get much worse than what we have but wouldn’t be willing to give up assets to bring this guy in hoping that he’s going to be an upgrade.

Keep in mind that this isn't typical VV performance either, based on previous history...there's still a chance that he can start to improve and be the mostly league-average player that he'd been previously (the D playing better in front of him would help as well, but not going to pretend VV has been good enough...he hasn't).  I get that fans are running out of patience but at the same time gotta be careful when it comes to giving up anything too noteworthy for another goalie that might not make much difference.  As for a "straight up" kind of swap, not sure who would be on the other end of a "VV for their guy who's having a tough year" deal, to be honest.  Can't say guys like Markstrom or Gibson would thrill me (especially given their hits and term), but given VV's year to date, can't imagine the other team's fans would be excited about him coming aboard either, except for the fact that VV's deal only runs through the end of next season, so if he didn't work out, his new team isn't tied to him longer term.

Schmid does have a .912 save% over his last 9 appearances (includes the rough one against SJ)...at least that's something.

After the game last night, even my girlfriend said to me "He can't keep doing this all on his own". Really need other guys to step it up

Toffoli’s suddenly seen his offense dry up:  no points in his last 6 games.  And of course Timo has been quiet too.

At least when Jack went without a point in three straight, Devils found a way to win two of them.  But yeah can’t always be about Jack doing Jack things.

Seems like it either has to be Jack or Bratt carrying the offense. It would be nice to see Nico and Timo get hot once in awhile.

Nico has played well since returning from injury, but he was ice cold to start the season.  More consistency would definitely be nice.

To really put this into perspective…

Kid is insane.

His ability to first create space and then get into position to shoot is phenomenal, and if last night is any indication, having another player with comparable speed in Bratt alongside him can only make it easier to generate offense.

Feels like it’s been kind of a “quiet” point streak, but there’s no denying the results. Obvious statement, but they’re just SO much better with him in the lineup.

For sure.  A lot of his points have come from deflections or steals leading to odd-man rushes and/or breakaways (e.g., Luke’s overtime winner in Philadelphia), so they aren’t always noticed, but they also weren’t happening in his absence because other players weren’t making the same plays.  Nico’s two-way abilities aren’t flashy, but they’re definitely effective.

Even the analytics guys are liking Holtz right now.

Really supports the eye test, in that even if he’s not lighting it up from a pure production standpoint, he absolutely looks like an NHLer.  And that’s all I was hoping for from him once he came out of preseason with a spot on the big club.  This season has been a huge step forward for him.
