Watched the first episode of "Those About to Die" its meh. The bad cgi and so much green screen work instead of real sets really drags the series down. Anthony Hopkins looks good for 86 years old though. I'll probably still watch the rest though because anything with gladiators and these ancient Roman days is still entertaining to me

I finished this series, it definitely gets better. Is it the level of Rome or game of thrones? No but I was never bored watching it and I kept wanting to watch each episode to see what would happen next. Iwan Rehon has a great character and plays his role really well.  Would definitely watch a season 2 if they decide to make it.

My wife and I just binge-watched all 11 seasons of Shameless.  It definitely declines in quality after season 7 or so, especially with character development…Debbie (who became the most despised by many in later seasons) changes so abruptly you almost wonder if completely different writers took over.  Overall I enjoyed it, but felt like 11 seasons was probably too many.

I still have to finish that series, I forget exactly where I stopped but it was probably around season 5-7

First four seasons were terrific.  It's still solidly good for the next few, and even 8 and 9 are pretty good.  10 and 11 are largely meh.  10 is by far the lowest-rated among fans, mostly because as one major character leaves, another becomes a "replacement" of sorts, and the replacement is often so annoying that you find yourself getting aggravated at times as you watch.

So funny you mention this.  My wife and I are in the middle of binging it too.  We were moving pretty quick then we got to season 9/10 and we're having a hard time watching it because it just sucks now, but we are determined to finish it.  We've been on these two seasons for like 3 months at this point.  They should have just cut up the entire series and used all the scenes with Kevin and turned that into a show.  Could have been like 5 seasons of pure gold.

Also, I find it hilarious that his name is Kevin Ball.

Yeah it definitely declines as it goes, and you'll see what I mean about some of the characters (a few basically become complete caricatures of themselves towards the end).  And yeah I always got a kick out of the name "Kevin Ball" too, for the exact same reason.  Obviously had I been watching it during its initial release, wouldn't have been so amusing.

Kevin was one of my favorite characters on the show.  A little dimwitted but clearly a very sweet and caring person (and often funny both intentionally AND unintentionally), someone who you'd love to have a beer with, a guy you know will always have your back.

And on the “Behind The Scenes” scene, apparently most of the cast got along very well…they all loved William H Macy, and apparently Shanola Hampton was a lot of fun on set and would always have everyone laughing.  Emmy Rossum…different story.  She almost wasn’t cast as Fiona due to having a rep of being difficult to work with; Emma Kenney (Debbie) went on record as saying that anytime Rossum had a bad day, she made it bad for everyone.  Shanola apparently went to bat for some cast and crew that Rossum was giving a hard time to, which strained their relationship to the point where they noticeably shared much less scenes together.  Apparently even the writers were getting tired of her, which some say is part of the reason they really beat on her character in Season 9.

The English version of Shameless (the original series actually) is on Netflix and I've heard better, but there is no way I'm binging something that long

And Fiona is smooooooking hot

Ah very interesting, thanks for the info.

Have you watched The Bear with Jeremy Allen White which also takes place in Chicago?  The first two seasons that are out are fantastic and in one of the scenes where they are in the restaurant, I'm pretty sure you can see Kev and V sitting at a table in the background.  Here is my crude screen cap.

I've heard about The Bear and I definitely want to check it out.  I really liked Jeremy's work in Shameless.  Some of my favorites scenes were when Lip and Ian were bonding; it would actually bum me out when they would fight (especially physically).

The Bear is awesome. I just finished season 3; it was good, but the first two seasons were much better.

The lead girl and the way she talks drives me absolutely insane.  Edit: Looked it up- Ayo Edebiri

I gave up on that show halfway first season.

Something about chefs in a kitchen doesn't do it for me and that voice............OMG, shoot me

US

I haven't seen the English one

Emmy Rossum

wowza

Yeah she's easy on the eyes, but apparently not the easiest actress to work with.  I remember when she sang the national anthem before a Devils game...was quite a while ago.

I liken the chef cooking montages to the Breaking Bad meth cooking montages 🤣

Pretty sure she sung the anthem at the first ever game at the Rock in 2007.

BTW since you're not far yet, Season 11 of Shameless is solid because it makes Covid a major part of that season's storylines.  More than a few TV series at that point were acting as though Covid didn't exist.

Without giving anything away, Season 11 does a great job showing how so many small businesses and people with little financial surplus were affected, and how everyone's daily existence was turned upside down.  It really brought me back to how sh!tty of a time that really was...it's easy to start to forget the little things, especially since no one close to me died from Covid.

Yeah I think you're right.  She was so young then...she had just turned 21.

Going back to all time Devils goals

Here is my personal ranking based on my fandom since the mid '80's

-Arnott   2000

-Johnny Mac   '88

- Freisen/Elias   '03

- Henrique 2x    '12

There are plenty of other massive goals, Richer in '94, Marshall whenever that happened....

Agreed.  I would also add as an Honorable Mention:  Baby Face Brylin with the Spin-A-Rama to basically ice it vs the Dead Wings

I didn’t go into the ‘95 finals with a ton of confidence in our chances.   The end to end goal by Niedermayer was the one where the switch flipped for me and I finally believed the Devils were going to win the cup.
