NHL Draft 2024 Tonight-Sat. @ Sphere Vegas

I wonder what it would take for the Devils to get into the second round. There are likely going to be a couple first round-quality talents available early on day 2 tomorrow. With Fitz developing a surplus on defense (Pesce rumors), maybe he can work on getting that done.

Yeah, I know he’s a regular over there. I just hate that board. Even lurking there is annoying on my phone. It’s borderline unusable.

I use ad blocks on my phones browser, never have any issues.

“There is going to be a lot of activity at this years draft!”

3 trades, all only involving picks…

I feel like they say this every year and maybe 20% of the drafts actually end up with any meaningful moves.   Last year there was a ton of buzz about the Leafs moving one of Marner or Nylander on the day of the draft.

There was a post Monday by some NY baseball jorno claiming Marner to be traded tonight to Utah. Whoops

For day 2, if the Devils can find a way to get into the early second round, Igor Chernyshov still hasn't been picked. He was a projected mid-first rounder, and probably worth giving up some assets for as long as it doesn't impact next season by any considerable degree.

The Devils' prospect pool remains pretty thin at center, so I imagine Fitz will take a center or two. Hoping they go for a goalie as well. What I'm really looking for in tomorrow's selections is players that bring back the speed that the team has been missing lately.

These pick swaps before the draft even starts is weird.

It certainly feels like Buffalo made a mistake trading down from 11 to 14 before seeing how the draft played out.  Highly regarded players fell to both 11 and 12 in Dickenson and Buium.  Good work by the Sharks.

Average height of Devils 2024 draft picks so far: 6'6

Silayev and Yegorov were my ideal scenarios for Devils 1st two picks. Obviously size was a big part of that.  Lots of movement with the goalies, will be interesting to see how this class ends up in a few years.

Based on the two picks so far, fitz wanted size and agility.

Yegorov will be at BU next year under Pando. He’s already here which is a massive plus, no KHL things to worry about

For better or for worse - there seems to be something special about the way those goaltenders develop in Russia. This kid seems like he would figure it out in either environment though.

Anyone remember Ilkka Pikkarainen? We just drafted his son Kasper.

Heh heh I saw a blurb about him.  Didn’t picture the Devils taking him, but here we are.
