This one I don't quite get, seems like a pretty high cap hit for a fourth liner.

I'm not going to whine or get too upset about it, relatively small dollars, but still seems like a lot to pay for the positioned and role

I think in his case, it's more that he has some versatility.  He provides some more offense than many 4th-liners, can fill in temporarily on other lines.

With how he played in CAR. I think he'll get every opportunity to play with Palat-Haula in training camp. Need him to drag Pally and Haula into some effective checking along the boards.

Stefan Noesen's post-signing interview is spectacular. He's such a bro.

Lou would love this guy. He's a very know your role kind of a player. He knows his role.

Our GM is tinkering. I'm skeptical, but it's July. See you in September.

What are you skeptical about?  The Devils were clearly lacking in the physical department and needed help on D, and Fitz has found players who will address those needs.

You're right, the Devils need those things. I'm skeptical about their age and the term for Pesce. Will they actually deliver? The Palat deal has me spooked ... and I was gung ho about that signing!

I'm not vehemently against what the Devils did, I'm just skeptical ... not looking for a hill to die on, that's for sure.

With the Noesen signing, I'd like to see lines next year of something like this:

Bratt - Hughes - Meier

Mercer - Nico - Foote

Palat - Haula - Cotter

MacDermid - Lazar - Bastian

Pesce - Hamilton

Hughes - Nemec

Siegenthaler - Dillon

DeSimone as 7th/healthy scratch

Foote in top 6 is scary and shows a little bit of our lack of depth at forward now that we don't have Todfoli, McLeod, and Holtz, but given give him a chance to see what he can do with solid linemates. Bastian probably deserves to be in line 3 over Cotter, they could be interchangeable if you ask me.  The bottom six guys are all gritty and that could work well to slow down opponents, but it could really put emphasis on the top 6 to score more.  I'm worried that we don't quite have as much offensive firepower as we did a season or two ago.  Guess you have to have balance and we're really going to have to have the D and Markstrom provide us some one and two goals games.

I definitely understand any concerns about the Pesce deal will age, but the first few years should be ok.  The other signings aren’t too bad from a term standpoint at least.

Any skepticism I have is more towards Markstrom…I really hope that works out, because if it doesn’t, any alternatives will likely have to come from within.  Which as of right now means either Daws or Poulter.

I think between Marky and Allen, if we can get league-average goaltending at least, we'll be in a good spot. I said the same last year but I don't think anyone of us could have forseen that epic VV/Schmid collapse

Yeah not asking for anything more than that from these two.  And given their combined cap hit it’s not like they won’t be providing fair value if they do that.

Yeah still is a question markstrom in net

C'mon man, that is so cringe ;)

I give this guy a "D" grade for all his FA signings and trades.

But not as cringe as this.  If you feel this way, so be it, but what don't you like about these moves?  The Devils needed to become more physical and better defensively...do the players brought in not fill that bill?  Not to mention that it's not like Fitz brought in a bunch of Reeves types...the guys who hit bring more than that to the table.  And Pesce is a guy who's replacing Marino and does certain things better.

The only game I went to last season was Markstrom being sparkling and Vitek .... not so much!

Anyway, I like the risk in trading for Markstrom. A reasonable move.

We still need another top 6 winger to play with Jack. Nolan Foote may not cut it, and Palat really belongs on the third line. Will be interesting to see what happens on that front. Tarasenko would be nice if we can find a way to fit him under the cap.
