Epp claims Leafs are in the running (he was asked about the Leafs by the announcers).

"Life style will play a role, however dollars have to make sense".

- Not surprised at what the other dmen are signing for.

- He claims that Anaheim has inquired about Nieds.

- Urgency is building, didn't anticipate the market moving as fast as it has.

- Expects deal by thursday (weekend by the latest, claims he is working on deals and taking new offers)

- "Oh definately", in response to possibly staying in NJ. "It is his home etc."

- Calgary, Vancouver, and NJ seem to be the front runners still based on contending, money, and location.

- Looking for a 3-5 year deal.

Overall tone of the interview seemed kind of tired or subdued. It may just be the way Epp is though, I have never heard him speak beofre.

NP

Obviously much of the interview was posturing for his client, but he seemed to repsond very well to the idea of Nieds returning to NJ - for what that is worth.

Can these salaries be backloaded like in the NFL? And if so, why aren't they?

Most of these players who have been signed have been extremely overpaid, like there isn't even a cap.

Maybe its more of a mirage then we realize

while you can structure the deal anyway you like, your cap number is the average.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Why?

That's pretty stupid, I don't understand why the owners would agree to that.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Even filthy rich people can be real dumb, and we all know some of these owners have bene known to be dumb over the years.
